I have a 5 1/2 in wrist and small hands. I am debating on buying these or the x-sm versa gripp, any advice?

My wrists are 7 1/2 - 7 3/4 I got the med/large size. And it's perfect. A sm/med should fit you well. And these are 1/2 the cost of versa gripps and in my opinion just as good. Basically the same thing. And are from a well known brand. Hope this helps

how or can they work the same with doing heavy shrugs like lifting hooks do? dont see how they can? please help. thanks

They work well for pulling/lifting heavy weight. I have tried several different straps, hooks etc and these seem to work the best for me.

Would these work well for pull-ups, allowing you to hang a little bit more from your wrist than just the hands?

Yes, I use them rolled outwards from the palms during my initial warm up and first few sets of pull-ups to protect my hands from the knurls on the pull-up bar too reduce calluses. I reverse and roll them towards my palms for grip and protect my hands during full reps/sets. Definetely will allow you to hang as described in your question.

How are these better than regular gloves you put your fingers through?

Way better! You have better grip than gloves, free hands when you want just flipping the leather part to the dorado of hands and the don't stink like gloves
