Such a great laundry cleaner. Whenever a laundry load is a little funky or icky, I toss in a little bit of OxiClean right in with the clothes along with my regular liquid detergent. It gives it a little boost. I do run an extra rinse cycle to make sure all the soap is thoroughly rinsed away.

2026 review. I've been using OxiClean powder for years. OxiClean works well for cleaning clothes, and I use it with hot water and it gets the stains out. For stains already washed and set from before, a long soak or long hot water wash works. The soap is powerful, and sometimes just needs hot water and time to work, such as a long laundry cycle. The OxiClean container's lid however needs work. In stores, there is always powder all over the outside of the OxiClean containers, even in the special displays where that's the only detergent there. I decided to have OxiClean shipped to me to avoid another trip to the store, but when it arrived the OxiClean container's lid was off, and half of it spilled out into the shipping box. The lid had a thin plastic retainer band but this was sheared right through. The cardboard shipping box itself was leaking all over, as cardboard boxes aren't sealed to contain powders. This was a large mess to clean up. The powder itself is good, but the lid needed a redesign for years now as of May 2026. I consider the product's own container as part of the product, as it affects usability. If it can't survive the rigors of shipping, a redesign is needed.

The process is simple: she soaks items in warm water for anywhere from a few minutes to a hour with a scoop of the powder before they even go through a regular wash. Set-in stains that we assumed were permanent (coffee rings, mystery discoloration, that thrift-store “been in someone’s closet for a decade” grime) have lifted out completely on more than one piece. It’s also great on fabrics that can’t handle harsh bleach, since it’s color-safe and gentler on natural fibers.

Our soil is red clay & when working in the yard I wipe my hands on my shirts & shorts/jeans (can't stand wearing gloves) & red clay stains worse than any other kind if soil. Since the stains have never come out, even with bleach, the clothes have gotten more & more stained as time has gone by. Even when clean they looked dirty. I used this powder as a pre-soak, using the maximum amount & very hot water (microwaved it), then washed the clothes, & now the stains are virtually gone. The water they soaked in ended up filthy. For pre-soaking, you use 2 of the measuring cups (either to the middle line or to the top one, depending on the severity of the stains) per gallon of water. I used a 5-gallon bucket so 10 scoops of the maximum amount of powder. At that ratio there's probably enough powder left to do this twice more but I have very few more heavily stained clothes to do (probably won't need a full 5 gallons to pre-soak the rest) so will get a lot more mileage from the powder from here on. There's no scent & the texture of the fabrics wasn't affected. I had my hands in the water numerous times, "stirring" the clothes around & would recommend wearing gloves - or even using long tongs. I will definitely buy this again!
