A8S Solar Single Swing Gate Opener Heavy Duty

This gate opener is great. It is installed at our front gate. We purchased the opener, controller, with 24v solar. In 4 years it has been out of power one time during one Pacific Northwest winter with no sun for 8 months. Even charges on cloudy days. I took batteries in and charged them on the bench and it stared working again. It is very easy to set up. The instructions are easy to read. I recently had an issue with it stopping during open, but again with the help of emailing the customer service, traced the problem to one of my batteries. Again replaced, a battery, and the opener is functioning perfectly. I will definitely buy with brand again if I have another need and I recommend it to anyone who needs a gate opener. We plan to add a beam switch and an automatic opener. We also purchased their wireless gate keypad. It is still working after 4 years with no battery change. Also, we purchased Topens keychain openers. And we provided family with hey keychain opener so they can open the gate whenever they come over easily. They work great.

If your gate is on the heavier side of the spectrum don't use the bolts they provide you with. Welding the brackets together is your best bet. Otherwise your gate will constantly work the bolts loose. I even tried nylon lock nuts with lock washers. Those lasted longer than what they give you but still worked themselves loose. There was a lot of fiddling and adjusting to make it work just right. Like making sure the opener put a little bit of tension on the gate when it closes so the lock will clear the pin when you open it instead of getting wedged and popping the fuse. Getting yourself some extra fuses isn't a bad idea. Follow the measurements they give you when determining how far you want the gate to open. That's important. It wouldn't be a bad idea either to get some grease. I put it on the pins holding the arm in place and the latch inside of the lock. Moving parts, lubrication. Don't over tighten the limit switch. It's plastic. It will break. Don't listen to the voice that tells you just a little more. Just get it snug. On the bright side if you do break the limit switch it is cheap and easy to replace. Wiring is straight forward. If you can read you can wire this thing up. Keep the wires from rubbing anywhere during operation and save yourself future headaches. Zip ties, wire, whatever you can use to keep wires in place. Don't use tape. The batteries they recommend for the solar panel setup work just fine. Tech support is not great. They give you two options to get ahold of them, email and a phone number. The phone number gives you a recording that tells you to email them. It's a good setup. It doesn't fuss too much if you've done everything you can to make sure it works the way it's intended to.

I purchased the product to open a 12 foot metal tube gate at the entrance to my property. This product was significantly more affordable than other similar products and it came with 2 solar panels. Once I built and mounted a box for the components, the install wasn't too difficult. I purchased two 12v batteries on Amazon, which I wired together in series. Mounting the solar panels was tedious because of the rather tight space in the frame (had to hold the nut with needle nose pliers while screwing the bolt in to get it threaded and then switch to a thin open end wrench to tighten it. Overall, the wiring isn't too difficult. It does take a bit of time. You can flip a small switch on the control panel to enable auto close. The instructions were adequate and I didn't need to use customer support. I bought two wireless keypads and syncing of the devices wasn't difficult. I am very pleased so far and will update the review if I have any issues in the near future.

I bought the Topens model A8s in late Sept of 2023 and got it installed in October 2023. It worked great for a little over a year and then in November of this year (2024), it just quit operating. We found that a fuse blew in the control panel, so went and bought the appropriate fuse to go in there and replaced it. Now when the gate operates it's extremely slow and doesn't have enough power to latch the gate closed anymore. As you can see in my video, we have to help it to make it lock. The reason it blew the fuse is because of extreme wind. The opener is rated for an 18 foot gate, up to 350 lbs. My gate is 16 foot and weighs 127 lbs. It's not being overworked but apparently it can't handle wind. The fuse didn't seem to protect whatever it's supposed to protect.

I hope I don’t jinx myself but so far it’s been working great. My neighbors and some friends bought the mor expensive brand and they constantly have problems with theirs

The install went easy and instructions were good. It took me about 4 hours to install everything with extras. The only bad thing that happened was 2 weeks after install the yoke that hooked to my gate side cracked. Looked like defect in casting. Got ahold of customer service and after 2 emails with pictures they sent me out a new arm to replace the broken one 15 min later it was working great. customer service was very easy to deal with. I will buy again for the ranch I just bought. Thanks Emilia

I am a critical and careful buyer and I made a good choice in choosing the Topens A8S opener. Along with that I also purchased the automatic gate lock, and the wireless keypad. In the beginning, I had a problem adjusting the swing of the gate. Which was due to my not following the directions correctly. After making contact with customer service and making two small adjustments that were recommended, it was working perfectly. Not only does Topens have a great product that is designed and made with quality materials, they also have a great customer service (Zack) and technical staff. With 3 or four needs to contact them, they always responded to me within 12 hours. Mostly 6-8 hours. That really means a lot to a customer in need. Above is a short vid of the gate lock operation. The gate controller automatically opens the lock when the signal is sent to open the gate. The gate lock is a good addition to the system in that it holds the gate shut if there are strong winds and eliminates the need for a regular keyed lock and chain. I have not installed the wireless keypad yet so I won't review it here. I have no doubt that I would purchase this or another Topens product.
