Runleader Digital LCD Maintenance Hour Meter for Small Engine Waterproof

First, you can’t beat the price of this thing. Second, it helps track the hours of my mower’s engine run time so that I can change my oil at the right intervals. Finally, it’s really easy to install…It comes with a fairly long wire. I wrapped one end around the spark plug wire, checked the length to where I wanted to mount the display, and tucked the wire into the slot on the back of the display. I mounted the display and secured it with the two included screws. Secured the end of the wire wrap around the spark plug wire with one included zip tie and secured the other end with the other included zip tie. I then trimmed off the the zip tie ends and the excess wire. Easy! Works great!

Took me less than 5 minutes to install. Flush mounted on the upper panel of my generator (see pic). Now I don't have to guess between oil changes. Installation was a breeze, comes with long enough wire, zip ties, fastening hardware. Very simple installation only requires to put the signal wire in the slot on the back of the hour meter, then run it to your spark plug wire and then wrap it around it several times (see pic) and secure with the vendor furnished zip ties. Tested on gen set and work!! Very good product. If anything changes in quality I will edit my review, but as of now it's five stars.

Installed on my generator after changing oil to stop guessing when to change oil. Installed simply with included screws. Ran it against my stop watch and accuracy is spot on. .1 is 6 minutes almost exactly. Highly recommend although I cannot speak to longevity so far it is perfect especially for the price and ease of use

So far so good. I bought an expensive lawn machine but it has no hour meter. So I bought the Runleader hour meter. Like other reviewers have said, there are no instructions in the box. But I had already watched several online videos and knew that you simply wrap the included wire around your spark plug wire. I wrapped it about 6 times around and secured it with the two included small zip ties. I then routed it to a plastic piece below my air cleaner. I took the other end of the wire and pressed it down into a slot on the back of the hour meter, took out the wire slack and then screwed it down to plastic below my air cleaner with the two included screws. I cut off the extra wire and I was done. Started the motor and ran it for six minutes and saw the indicator correctly indicated 1/10 of an hour. Now I can maintain my machine based on hours run and not be guessing.

Read and watched videos of installations and finally installed on my 2021 toro zero tun mower. It works. Now to see how accurate it is will take awhile. Simple to install for an old man. Much cheaper than Toro’s meter that they should have put on the mower at factory.

I put these on my 4 stroke outboards, snow blowers, generators and a few other items. Super handy and much easier to track maintenance. Some machines make it hard to access the spark plug wires but I have succeeded using patience. I bought this one to replace one on my old Honda 40 outboard after the battery in the first one finally died - it lived much longer than expected. And they sit out in the Alaska cold and wet year round and keep working - pretty good torture test I think.

Pro: Fit nicely on my new PowerSmart 2500 inverter generator. Con: Comes with no directions. The hour meter comes with a length of wire & 2 mounting screws. Press one end of wire carefully into the slot in the back of the hour meter with a screwdriver to seat it in well. Drill a hole through the triangle piece on the handle at the bottom corner and feed the wire through the hole, and over the gas tank to the spark plug. Drill through horizontally. There is plenty of room. Don’t drill down, or vertically. The gas tank is below. Feed the wire over to the spark plug access hole. Use a wire hanger or stiff wire to feed the wire over if necessary. The other end or the black wire wraps 5 times around the spark plug wire, just behind the spark plug boot. Wrap the wire coil of 5 wraps with electrical tape and zip tie the tape to keep it from unraveling. Press the hour meter into the triangle piece on the front of the handle and mount it with the 2 little screws. Any extra wire can be cut off or coil it up and put a zip tie on it.

These little “hobb meters” are a must for all your small engines. I have them on my generators, gas welders, lawn tractors etc. they are super easy to install and keep track of how many hours are on your equipment and can tell when they need service…. Very cheap insurance

Bought the hour meter for my bike and I installed it and it would not work so I took it to a shop for other fixes and had them install it and after a few times it still wouldn’t work so I got a dud
