Great yeast
Love this yeast. I bake bread every day. Have done for 20 or so years now. Sometimes yiu will get the tin with a shorter date, they buy in big batches and it depends on how long it takes them to sell it Al, but even a 4 or 5 month is not a problem. If yiu are not going to use it all - bag it and freeze it and just get out how much you want to use. By freezing it, you increase its shelf life astronomically. Great flavour, great rising,

Great product at reasonable price
Used it in my breadmaker to make pizza dough and must say it works well. I only ever used Hovis fast action dry yeast and actually think this worked even better. I don't bake bread with dry yeast (use sourdough starter) , so can't say how it works on bread. Update: used it on time delay in my breadmaker and bread came out great. Comes in a tin, YOU'LL NEED TIN OPENER! Original packaging was destroyed during transport and tin had dents in it so you might want to use cardboard boxes as quite a bulky item. Use by date was 2yrs.

Functional Yeast
I've been making bread every week for a few years, this is a switch from the 'easy bake' variety I had previously been using, and I always used honey - this yeast is not as happy with honey, but when I add a spoon of Muscovado Sugar in addition to the honey, the yeast does much better although it's quite variable. I remember the yeast making a foamy 'head' on the water when I first bought it, now there are only a few bubbles but the bread rises well. The yeast and honey or sugar must be activated together beforehand in warm water (there are instructions on the tin) and it seems 40 degrees centigrade is right, I have gone a bit over to 50 and unfortunately the bread didn't rise at all due to perhaps dead yeast. When warming up and cooking there is also a strong yeast smell that you may like, I prefer it less to other yeasts in terms of smell and would probably not use this yeast again although it does a fine job otherwise and is very good value - I have enough for 18 months now in this large tin and overall it's good stuff and tinned yeast is supposed to live for 2 years.

Excellent yeast for great results!
I have been baking bread for a long time, but have found that the results can be quite variable, due to the fickle nature of common commercially available yeast. This yeast is absolutely superb! When activating the yeast, it has a strong, yeasty smell initially, but once the bread is baked, this is no longer an issue. I add warm water (30-40 C) and a teaspoon of sugar to the dried yeast and let it stand for 15 min, stirring once or twice. Lots of bubbles are forming, which indicates the yeast is alive and working! I also let the bread rise for 2-3h on a warm place and bake in a dutch oven for best results. Since using this yeast, I always get great results, the breads rise properly and are light in nature, not dense like they used to be. I also store the yeast in a cool dry place, as storing it in a warm environment would make it less effective over time. I can very much recommend this yeast, as it delivers consistently great results.

Great yeast
This is great yeast. Ive not had any problems getting it activated - i stick it in 40-50*C water with a little sugar and off it goes. I use it for pizzas and rolls. I find it to be far superior to the yeast packs you get in the supermarket. It is quite strong (if that is the word to use), i found i had to use a little less than recommend in my pizza recipe or my dough smelled realy strongly of the yeast.

Best yeast
This is a fantastic product. Having used many types of yeast with mixed results including fresh, I was willing to try anything for a consistent result. Water temperature is key it must be 35° C for proper activation, I have not had to add sugar to this . My recipe calls for 300ml but I have found it best not mix it all with the yeast as different flours absorb differing amounts. As I bake 2-3 loaves a week the use by date isn't a problem. There is a plastic lid supplied so no need to decant. Can't recommend enough

Tastes Awful. It Raises The Bread Well. You Can't Swallow What You Baked
The taste has a distinctive "off" smell. It reminds you of the bottom of wine barrels after you have finished brewing. It is definitely not a taste my wife or I would expect in a bread. The smell is reminiscent of "clotted cream that has gone off" We tried several things. 1) If used directly while kneading bread like any instant yeast, then this gives you a lumpy uneven distribution. That dough was unusable and got chucked away. 2) If dissolved in water and then used that way as instructed - then the yeast works well. This review is based on the this method, as per their instructions. So the first rise for proving, works well. We then shaped the buns and let it rise the second time, slit/scoured it and then baked it. It is to be noted that the second rise is quite good and though there was some smell to the yeast, both my wife and I, felt that this might disappear on baking. However, this smell only got more intense until just before the breads went in the oven. The smells from the oven was also less inviting than what we are used to with Mauripan yeast. I can't actually believe that after 8 years of using Mauripan, I tried a different brand. I was happy to experience less vigorous, a more slow yeast, or even different flavours, etc. However, I was not prepared for this. Mauripan has a "disappearing" quality to it. Mauripan is transparent. Mauripan lets you tastes the flour characteristics, etc. With Saf, however, all I can taste is Saf. I use Italian durum wheat and other nice flours. All of their individual taste has so completely disappeared with Saf. Instead, all I can taste is a very strong "rotten cream" taste that is quite overpowering and disgusting indeed. I have now disposed this tin of yeast in the bin. I wasted time and £7 on this. NOTE: Children have refused to eat the rolls which they are usually quite fond of. Their lunch boxes have come back with the rolls not eaten. They said they did not like the taste. My wife and I ate it, but now feel uneasy. As we can still remember and feel that smell. The bread had a slight "buttery" taste which is what the smell tastes like. So the flavour is not disgusting, but the smell is. I do not think I can eat this again. I am sorry bit this tin has to go in the bin. That is £7 wasted,

Top !
