Milwaukee produces high-quality tools, and this step drill bit is no exception. Their step drill bits are considered above average, which is evident from how many professional tradespeople choose to use them. I personally own several sizes and have found them to be reliable for both work and home projects. Often, it’s more practical to carry a drill and a couple of step bits than to bring an entire toolbox filled with different bit sizes. These bits also tend to stay sharp for a good amount of time before needing replacement, so I have no issues with their durability. However, I do suggest using cutting fluid or oil while drilling, as this can help extend the lifespan of the bits even further.

Still sharp after many uses

I use this to enlarge bolt holes in angle iron and definitely are sharp. Better than using a 1/2" bit. I have purchased a second because I hit tool steel with the first one and it slightly dulled it.

Cuts through metal like butter. Works exactly as expected

Amazon sent the wrong size but these are awesome for starting holes and great if your using 3/8 allthread etc. We drilled many holes with no issues so far.

Had to make a dozen or so 5/16 " holes in 1/8 flat bar. I won't say it was like a hot knife through butter, but with some patience and oil lubrication, it worked. Once the tip pokes through, the step portion of the bit is much faster. I initially tried making the holes with a regular bit, after much trying, I never did make it all the way through the bar. Definitely a keeper.

It is very useful and handy tool I have ever purchased but I do not recommend to use it on stainless steel.
