Redbarn Ham Bone X-Large Dog Chew 1-Count

I have two large malamute mixes. Both are very picky eaters. They won't even touch many popular dog snacks like cow hooves, Beggin' Strips, and some brands of pig ears. They do love ham though. It's one table scrap they've never been able to pass up- no matter how full they are. So I thought, naturally, ham bones would be a big hit with them. I wasn't disappointed. I've purchased these bones a few times. I trust and like Redbarn brand. I've never had an issue with their products. There are a few specific aspects I like about these snacks: -First, being the fact they are all natural. They are actual ham bones which are smoked for preservative and flavor purposes. I try to keep my dogs on an aux natural diet and these bones fit into my feeding regimen. I can feed them to the pups guilt free- knowing that there are no weird preservatives or additives like there are in other dog snacks. -The other thing I really like about these bones is how large they are. They really are 'Jumbo'. I feed my dogs regularly so they won't sit down and eat this bone in one sitting (they're usually too full for that), but they will work on it a few hours each day. I gave them the last two I purchased on Christmas. It is now January 1st and the bones are half-way eaten. They do last quite a while- even with my tough little chewers. My larger dog works on his a little more diligently so it's eaten quite a bit more than my smaller pup's. Each of these bones come in a plastic sealed wrap. It keeps the natural oils and crumbs of the bone neatly packed inside. It's easy to open. But once opened lots of little bits of dried meat and bone will fall all over the place. Another neat feature about these bones is that there is a bit of meat dried onto the bone- it's not just a bone. But as you open this the pieces will fall all over the place. Keep this in mind. The bone is also oily and greasy. I like this because it means it's natural not over-preserved. But once again this is something to keep in mind. If you're feeding this on carpeted flooring the grease may get into the flooring. There isn't much of an odor to the bone though- so if you're willing to clean up the mess you won't have to deal with an odd smell. Now onto what the dogs think: They're always excited to receive these bones. They can barely wait for me to open the packages. Coho, my smaller malamute will usually set the bone on the ground and begin gnawing. Rascal, my bigger dog, will hold the bone in his mouth and do a little dance for a while. Then he'll attempt to chew it standing up (realizing that's much to hard) and then he'll lay down and munch on it as well. For the first time they get the bone they'll sit for an hour or so just chewing. They love the little crumbly bits on the outside. And for the next week after receiving the bone they'll return to it often. It never gets buried- much too yummy for that. The hard texture of this bone will help clean plaque off of dog's teeth. The large size can keep even the toughest chewers busy for a few hours (if not a few days!). It's well packaged and doesn't have a strong smell. It is a bit messy, but that's to be expected with an animal bone. The dogs absolutely love it- and that makes it a 5 star snack in my mind!

I have a beagle. He's 6 months old and he has been chewing on my furniture and walls. He has other chew toys, but he still goes for my furniture. So, I got him this bone. He's satisfied and he no longer chews on my furniture. Here's a list of Pros and Cons: Pros *Distracts puppy-The first day he got it, he spent the entire day chewing on that thing. He only stopped for his walks, his feeding times, and for drinks of water. He can spend hours chewing it. *Saved furniture- Whenever he gets the need to chew (which, as a puppy, is pretty much all the time) he just runs over to his bone. He no longer chews on my furniture. *Lasts long- My puppy gets through his bones fast. It usually takes him 10 minutes to get through a long rawhide bone. However, this bone is HUGE! It's long and thick, so even though my puppy constantly attacks it, it's strong enough to withstand it. *It's cheap-With my Amazon prime, I only paid $6.18 for this. It's a great deal. Cons *Messy-It's coated in something. It's hard and crunchy and my dog loves it but it's messy. So, when I opened the plastic that held it together, a bunch of crumbs started falling out. Also, my puppy made a HUGE mess of crumbs. It was from chipping off the coating on this bone. It's better to open it over the trash can so that you won't have to clean up what falls out. Also, give this to your dog in a place that's easy to clean. Thankfully, my house only has hard floors, so all I had to do was sweep it up. However, carpeted areas would need to be vacuumed. *Smell-It comes with a smell. It's not a foul smell, but it's noticeable. All in all, an amazing product. I will definitely be buying it again once he finishes this one up.

My 100 lb Dog loves it, walks around with it constantly now. Likes it better than his others. It is big, probably 10 or 11 inches long. Should last a good long time. Good value

Bought 5 of these for my GSD and she bit it in half within 15 minutes. The bone itself is large and looks sturdy but it is not safe for a large breed dog (which it is intended for). After the bone was bitten in half the bone then began splintering into small pieces. Luckily, I was right there with my dog so I stopped her from eating all of the small bone shards that could internally damage her. This product is also not returnable nor refundable so this was a horrible experience and could've had an even worse outcome than just being out the 15.00+; my dog could've been seriously injured if I were not with her. If you do decide to purchase this product please watch your dog while s/he is chewing on this bone.

Got this for my 82 lb Labrador mix puppy 16 months. He started on the knob bits and it lasted several days. Then he went for the middle part and it cracked. Bone cracked clean, not into tiny bits... so was able to just snatch up the few big chunks and fling them out. I don't mind bones that crack into big pieces and not small bits. Not recommended for very large dogs or overly powerful chewers... this one will crack if your dog just attacks the middle part off the bat.

Oh my gosh, my little doxie mix loves this huge bone. Seriously I had no idea the bone would be this huge. He carries it around and it looks like a dinosaur bone in his mouth. It totally cracks us up. He gnaws on it and is happy. No way can he actually eat it. I buy smaller bones like this locally and he eats one in a day. So I am happy he cannot eat the bone, but still likes to try to chew on it. I took a hammer to one of them and it did shatter into very sharp and scary pieces. My dog had no interest in the bone once I broke it up. I was trying to make it easier for him. Now I just read the other reviews about how dangerous this bone is. He has had the 2nd one he carries around for about a month now. He gnaws on it and likes to walk around with it. I do not think he can actually eat it and I give him rawhide for that. I will be keeping my eye on the bone. I usually buy beef bones from a local store and he eats them in an hour. I am glad he cannot eat this one. I will not buy again after reading the other scary reviews about dogs being hurt.

First I was shocked at the size. A little bigger than advertised, actually . Second the quality of it was great - it didn't "stink" like some bones I've gotten in the past. My dog is a little older now (10.5 years) so she doesn't go through bones as quickly as before, and this one lasted quite a while. Very solid, no chips or sharp points to it and it doesn't snap apart like some more brittle bones have, either - it more or less grinds down with their chewing. I highly recommend this product, and for only $5 you're getting more than you pay for in my opinion.

These were such a good deal I did not want to pass it up. They arrived on time and in good shape, no ordering or shipping problems, so that's always nice. But all 3 dogs disliked them. I don't know exactly why. The bones looked good but there was just something about them they didn't go for. I found the bones just laying in the back yard untouched so I'm assuming that they must've tasted awful. I don't really have an exact reason why they weren't interested. It was not expensive so I really wasn't too broken up about it but I would not order again. I guess you just never really know what your furry friends will like unless you try it.
