Simply awesome!!!
It was a happy coincidence that this product arrived to my home at the same time my new refrigerator did, and I could tested both at the same time and I must say that the result was great. The fridge works very well, but the ice tray is marvelous. The tray instruccion are easy to follow and to pull out the ice Death Star from it is too. But that was really awesome is the detail in the resulting 'ice cube', you can see the meridional trench and the plate of the principal weapon so crearly that you only can say wow!. I have another Star Wars trays, but definitly this one is the jewel of the Crown of them

That blast came from the Death Star! That thing's operational!
"That Blast came from the Death Star! That thing is Operational!" - Lando Calrissian, year unknown. Fortunately, the only thing blasting out of my Kotobukiya Star Wars: Death Star Silicone Tray (KSW:DSST) is delicious cocktails! Often I'll be sipping on a philyorita in a rocks glass with my death star ice cube in it and someone will be like "Where did you get that spherical ice cube?". Now, here's the best part, I get to respond "That's no spherical ice cube, that's the death star you idiot". I enjoy myself every time this happens. No one else finds it amusing. You're welcome for sharing. When these same friends find out that I also own Kotobukiya Star Wars R2D2 Silicone Tray and Kotobukiya Star Wars Han Solo Silicone Tray they are super weirded out. Like, facebook defriending weirded out. Thankfully Mrs. Philyodaddy is locked in with a ring on it, so she can't leave me. It's a trap. Now let me rate the KSW:DSST in the categories provided by amazon: How much fun is this toy: 4/5 stars - 5 stars because it makes drinks more fun MINUS 1 star deducted because I don't know in what bizarro world this qualifies as a "toy". Maybe a dog toy if that silicone is totally safe to chew, unknown at this time. How would you rate this toy's educational value? 5/5 - The destruction of the death star is a laudable lesson in exposing the power of nature over the myth of technological dominance. How durable is this toy: 5/5 - hasn't broken yet. Fill it about 80% of the way and it makes a perfect ice Death Star. Every time. Overall - 5/5 Best ice cube death star maker I have ever seen. Dominates the category. Con: it is pretty hard to remove the case from ice cube when frozen. Luckily, philyodaddy has the strength of the Force on his side, but for average people this could be a cause for concern.

Fun little gift
I received this item far before the expected delivery date which was great. The packaging wasn't anything special. I was actually slightly disappointed since I picked this brand of Star Wars ice cube over others on Amazon since I saw in one of the pictures a box in reference to the height. I incorrectly assumed from seeing the picture of the box that the product would be packaged in a box. It wasn't, and was merely put in a small plastic bag inside a slightly larger shipping plastic bag from China. I wanted a box, as it was a gift, but the fact it wasn't in one isn't too big of a deal, it's just a bit of false advertising. As far as the product itself, I'm impressed! I gave it to my dad and was instantly excited to try it out. Upon filling the hole on top up and freezing it overnight, I discovered two things. 1. The water should not be filled to the top. 2. This is very difficult to pry open after taking out of the freezer. The physics of water expanding when turning from a liquid to a solid completely went over my head and so the first time the water had frozen over the hole in the night. I've tried several times since and it's always fun to see how it turns out. I use tap water and it never shows as crystal clear. It also often has cracks and a rim around the middle of excess ice. But despite all of the gripes I still love it and my dad does too. It was cheap, and it's a fun little item. The result may not be perfect but we aren't building a real Death Star here or something to rival Echo base, we're making ice balls to put in my dad whiskey that begin to melt and lose detail within minutes. Regardless of my criticisms, I think it serves it's purpose and I shall continue to try to use this mold and create the perfect Death Star. And as my father reminded me, "the ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force."

Cool, but tricky
It's cool, but a bit tricky at first. Make sure the two pieces are perfectly lined up and all the way pushed together. It is also a guessing game on how much water to put in. The instructions are in a different language. But once you figure it out it's pretty cool. The picture show when you put too much water in. It comes out the top and pushes the two pieces apart a little bit. And the ice globe is all cracked from the pressure. I will also try to use purified water next time maybe it won't be so foggy. The pictures don't show the markings very well, but they are there. And it looks like the death Star.

great gift for any Star Wars fans!!!
If you're a Star Wars fan at all or have on in your life this is a very cool and fun gift!! I got them for my husband and son...they love them! We've not been able to get them as clear as the picture yet..but we'll keep trying. We poured a shaken drink over it and the foam kinda stuck in all the grooves and looked awesome! Like smoke was all over it!! The detail does get lost pretty fast and a lot of times they crack into two hunks...so then we just joke about it getting destroyed so it's all part of the fun! Which was the point in the first place...fun!!! :)

Pretty cool, but...
Who wouldn't want this? This is a Death Star ice mold. Of course I want this. The mold itself is shaped like a ball, and is halved into two hemispheres. You put the hemispheres together to create the ball. It also has a hole in the top, through which you pour the water. Simple enough. I did all this, stuck the mold in the freezer, and waited. When I took the mold out, I noticed that it was really hard to get the ice sphere out of the mold. Get ready for your fingers to freeze as you try to pry this icy little moon (wait, no it's not) out of the mold. I noticed that water sneaked into the rims of each hemisphere, so when the water froze, the ice essentially glued the mold together. Once I finally managed to pry it out, I noticed that an awkward little nub had formed where I poured the water in. Made it look weird. I also got many cracks inside my ice sphere, which made it so that I couldn't even see the ridges and details that are supposed to show up on the sphere. So, overall, an awesome idea for an ice sphere, but it's kind of a disappointment. One of these days I'll get it to create the perfect Death Star.

Greatest Iceball Ever!
I'm an avid scotch drinker and a huge fan of star wars. All of my friends that have seen these ice balls just love them. They fit perfect inside a medium sized short high ball glass and do a great job of cooling down your preferred drink without melting too rapidly. Would also work great in a party punch bowl. If you boil the water prior to filling the silicone container, you will get a much clearer ice ball as most of the minerals will precipitate out of solution. Otherwise the ice ball looks pretty milky in color. Easy to fill and freezes in a few hours. I should have bought a few more as its a bit of a pain to keep making ice balls using only 1 mold. I'd recommend buying 2 or 3 which would greatly speed up the process.

Bello

seriously funny this mould clips together well freezes overnight to make a really good death star ice cube. easy to remove but, you do need a massive glass to put this ice cube in - we ended up putting this in a jug on the table rather than in drinks. I found that you can make one and then freeze this in a bag while you make more so no need to buy more than one. this is not cheap but, people LOVE it and the cubes make a real talking point.

Salen perfectas!!
Salen perfectas, al principio cuesta acertar la cantidad de agua pero después es una pasada. Es fácil de desmoldear y el hielo resultante es una pasada!

It leaks! Very disappointing.
These recent units were poorly manufactured. The bottom is thicker and built well but the top is flimsy. The moment you put it down the seal between the two is broken and water leaks out the sides. Needless to say it doesn't retain enough water to freeze a whole Death Star.
