Simon's second solo studio album, it contains songs covering several styles and genres, from gospel ("Loves Me Like a Rock") to dixieland ("Take Me to the Mardi Gras"). The album received two nominations at the Grammy Awards of 1974, including Best Male Pop Vocal performance and Album of the Year. Review: An essential album of the Paul Simon catalogue. - This is my third purchase of this album having had it on cassette and as an iTunes download as a mp3. I have always loved Paul Simon and this album is one of his best. The vinyl plays beautifully and brings back so many memories. Quite simply this album is a must have if you love the music of that late 60’s early 70’s era, when Simon was one of its biggest stars. Review: Exccellent - Excellent CD of early work by Paul Simon

Simply Simon at His Best
Classic Simon, his first solo album after splitting with Garfunkel. Timeless tunes and irresistible rhythms. Perceptive social commentary interwoven with personal hopes and fears. Little wonder six singles were released from this 1973 offering, ranging from the languid Take to the Mardi Gras to the sharply observant American Tune. Songwriting and production at its best.

A beautiful, mellow album
I bought this cd after months of searching for an album by Paul Simon called "Kodakchrome". That album doesn't exist -but the song does-on "There Goes Rhymin' Simon". I was instantly transported by to the age of 13 when my pal bought this LP (as it was in those days)and played it to a few of us. Forty years later, the songs sound as good as ever, perhaps better, because we have lived lives and had experiences, that Paul Simon sings about, but back in the day, we had yet to know for ourselves. A great mix of songs that can still hold their own today. It's worth buying to listen to some beautiful lyrics and wonder at amazing chord changes that make the music cut into your heart and soul.Experiencing Paul Simon is definately still brilliant after all these years.

Simon Rhyming At His Best
I'm not a fan. Let me be honest from the start. I like a few of his singles and, through radio, have come to like some of his lesser know album tracks. This is from 1973. It still has a late 60s feel. Four of the tracks are really well known as they get frequent outings on Gold stations. The others less so. However, they are all good tunes. I enjoyed this and will give it a few more listens before it is filed away with all my other albums.

Superb.
In my humble opinion, this is probably one of the best albums he has made. The choice of musicians just compliment each track beautifully. There are also 'bonus demo tracks' which were never on the original vinyl release. Recording quality is excellent.

Best ever
Simply the best album Paul Simon did in the aftermath of the breakup of Simon and Garfunkel … and possibly his whole career (contentious I know) but things changed after this.
