We use this to hide keys and it works well. I found that the other options available all had some sort of printing on the outside indicating they were for key storage. The whole idea is for this to be a hidden storage solution so I was happy to find this one with a plain exterior. The magnet is strong and I can fit a few keys with tags inside. It seems durable and it closes securely. All in all I’m pleased with the product.

The magnet was stronger than I expected, which is good. The seal seems OK. The unit is much larger than my needs, but I imagine this might be a plus for some people (I made a copy just for door access, without a large chip/head, so it won't start the vehicle; my issue is just to prevent accidentally locking my fob inside the vehicle). Although the increased mass/size will make it more obvious and more likely to dislodge. I put the key in a sealed bag, then in the unit, then added some foam to prevent the key from moving or rattling. Time will tell if it stays where I put it...

Overall I'd say 4.5 stars. My only issue which is very minor is as follows: If you place a bare key in the case the key will rattle in the case. This is, of course, to be expected. In order to eliminate the rattling I wrapped my key in thin foam so that the key and foam would wedge inside the case and prevent rattling. The door to the case slides on a track. You have to place just the right amount of extra material around the key to prevent rattling. Too little foam (or whatever) and the key will rattle. Slightly too much compressible material for wedging and the sliding door will pop off the track outward. The door is sturdy enough and I can't see it ever coming off on its own. Only when forced from the inside with too much material does this become an issue. I reduced the amount of foam to get the pressure just right and the door is holding up fine. No rattling key and I have no fear of the door coming off again. (When the door did come off when I used too much foam - nothing broke. I just had to put the door back on track.) I think the magnet is plenty strong enough as long as you place it on a smooth and flat surface. I have mine hidden inside some square steel tubing at the rear of my car and it is very difficult to remove. I don't think it will ever come off by accident. If hidden in a car just use common sense. If I hit a giant bump and the magnet does come loose it will re-grip since it's essentially trapped in a square tube. If you hang the magnetic case upside down (magnet on top) I'm sure the case will fall off at some point. Just mount it so that if it the magnet breaks contact it can regrip with the help of gravity.

Very strong magnet stayed on even through bumpy roads never came open or anything.

I wanted to be able to store both my apartment key and my car key and this is perfect with room to spare. The doors in my apartment building lock automatically behind you, so if you don't have your keys in your hand, you're locked out. Both my next door neighbor and I have been locked out and then had to go in search of the manager. I bought one for me and one for my neighbor, too. They're nice and sturdy with a strong magnet. These would make great stocking stuffers. UPDATE: I've now had this for over 2 years and it's still a super strong magnet. Never budges no matter the conditions of the road, the weather, long trips, etc. BUT - over time, it will get harder to open. The fix for me was to superglue a piece of rubbery material on the top, so you can get some grip on it when you try to slide it open, especially if it's wet. Then, you'll want to also put some petroleum jelly or some type of lubricant on the sides where it glides open and closed. I also smeared petroleum jelly on the spare keys inside, because one was trying to rust. The only problem after that, is that moisture builds up inside it. No big deal, if you have covered the keys in petroleum jelly, but beware when you open it, you'll have some water that needs to be emptied out - so you don't get water on you. I love this thing. It's saved me more than once when I've locked myself out of my apartment, or the truck. I keep a spare key for my locking gas cap in it, too, just in case.

Excellent purchase! This magnetic key holder is exactly what I was looking for. The magnet is strong and stays securely attached where I placed it, giving me confidence that the key will stay put. Of course, I won't tell you where.
