I can't seem to get it to work with an old iphone and a uv-5r, the radio gets real hot. anyone having this problem?

It comes with an adapter cable for use with older phones that support the headphone jack wiring used by early Motorola phones (these predate the iPhone). Perhaps your iPhone needs this adapter? It should have come in your package.As for the radio getting hot, is it transmitting continuously without a break?

I bought this the aprs-k2 cable and am connecting an iphone 5s and a uv-5r. why does it always activate vox and intermittently transmit?

I use an iPhone 5 (not 5s, though) and a UV-5R, and I've found that I need to find just the right volume settings on both the phone and the rig. On the phone I have the volume set at about 2/3 and on the rig it's set at about 1/3. I also set the vox to 4. This cable actually solved the vox tripping problem I had when trying to do APRS with my iPad instead of my iPhone, so I know the circuit can do the job with the right settings. De WU0V
