I’ve been using these books while learning Japanese and they’ve been really helpful for getting a good grasp of the language. The course is laid out in a clear way, starting with the basics and gradually building up towards intermediate level. The workbooks are a nice addition, with activities that make practice more enjoyable, and the free app support is a real bonus with listening tasks and other online resources. Some parts of the book can be tricky, especially when it comes to grammar points like particles or verbs. A bit more explanation here would have been useful, as the book does assume you already know the difference between nouns, adverbs and so on. That said, Japanese isn’t an easy language and the overall approach keeps things engaging. These books work well if you’re studying alone, but they’re also a solid companion for lessons with a tutor or in a class. They’re not perfect, but they provide a good framework and could keep you busy for a long time.

These books are amazing. They come with an app so you can download all the sound segments in the book. They provide lots of details on how the Japanese language works in an easy to understand format. I have been learning Japanese off duolingo for a while which is great but these books have enhanced my knowledge on how the language works.

Can you read the headline? I can. With these books, you will be able to do so too. The Genki textbooks are some of the most respected beginners learning tools in the Japanese learning community, and the addition of audio that can be downloaded for free with purchase makes them even better. If you want to learn Japanese, I'd definitely recommend them as ONE of the methods you should use - though as a reminder, as with any language, you should seek out as many different ways to study as you're comfortable with in order to improve the range of skills to eventually hit true understanding.

I'm so happy these products are sold as a bundle because it saved me so much money on international delivery! (and I've checked several countries' amazon websites for the final prices with delivery and other costs) The textbooks arrived super quickly and in excellent condition. This is the complete Genki bundle (latest edition). I was confused for a minute about the audio but it's on a separate app which I find way more useful than if it was on a CD (like it's in Genki 2 as far as I know). All in all - I'm very happy with this purchase. Definitely 5/5!

Very high quality books. Very easy to follow for beginners like myself. I am very happy with my purchase. The only "negative" thing I have to say is there are quite a lot of "audio" where it asks you to listen to people having a conversation (in Japanese obviously) but there is no audio files or cd for me to hear the conversation. I have a lot of blank pages so far. If anyone reading this knows where I can find the audio I'd be extremely grateful. With that being said if you want to learn Japanese don't hesitate to buy this product.

Very good product but may be confusing diving in unprepared.I recommend the youtube channel ‘ToKini Andy’ who will walk you through all the lessons.

These are great books content wise and really nice high quality binding also. Would defo recommend these along with an online tutor. For those looking for the audio files. You need to download the OTO Navi - Sound Navigator app (from The Japan Times) for iOS or android.

Genki 1 and 2 is the gold standard for learning Japanese. I think this package is an excellent deal. It's cheaper than buying all the books individually. I like the illustrations that go with the text. They tell stories, which helps solidify the meaning of the words in my head. In addition, I am using the Pimsleur course Japanese 1-5 app and practicing with my brother who is fluent. Of course, I also watch anime and try to read manga. I am rapidly increasing my verbal skills and making ok progress on my reading.
