Activ Lites

We purchased these bike lights for our son who is currently serving an LDS mission, as well as for his companion. He rides a bike every single day, and with the recent time change he’s often out riding in the dark. While he already had a front headlight, and a rear light but he was still difficult to see from the sides, which concerned us. These wheel-mounted lights solved that problem completely. Once installed, the bikes are visible from all angles—not just the front and back. We sent him a green set and a blue set so he and his companion could easily be seen by cars and pedestrians alike. Installation was straightforward and required no tools. It took them about an hour total to install the lights on both bikes (front and back wheels), even doing it for the first time. They absolutely love them. The lights are bright, eye-catching, and make them stand out clearly at night, which gives us so much more peace of mind knowing they’re safer. We were so impressed that when our son transferred to a new area and received a new companion, we immediately purchased another set. In fact, we plan to buy a set for each new companion throughout the rest of his mission. Safety is priceless, and these lights are an easy, effective way to increase it. Highly recommend these to anyone who rides at night—especially for kids, teens, commuters, or missionaries who depend on their bikes every day.

We saw these lights on a bicycle in our neighborhood and I knew we had to get some for our kids. For the parents, it is nice because you can see the bicycle from far away and it gives a sense of safety for twilight and nighttime riding. For the kids, it gives them something to enjoy seeing the lights as they ride. The lights are very easy to install and the instructions are easy to understand. The hardest part of installing the lights is installing the rubber "band" around the hub. It is possible with one person but a lot easier with am extra set of hands and the 4 step instructions that come with the lights let you know that. The lights have 2 operating modes. When you hit the button once, the lights flash about once a second. When you hit the button a second time the lighter stay on without flashing. The lights are REALLY BRIGHT and fun to look at. I thought it would be nice for trick or treating during Halloween. There is a positive and a couple negatives, but the POSITIVE FAR EXCEEDS the minor negatives. Negative #1: We ordered 6 sets of lights. (2 Blue, 2 Red, 2 Green) (The 2 blue sets are not here yet so I can only offer feedback on red and green for now) The first green set would not turn on when we hit the button. After a little troubleshooting, I noticed the screw cap that holds the battery pack in was not quite seating the battery pack in place. NOT A BIG DEAL. All I needed to do was put a little ball of paper in the end cap and screw it on. PROBLEM SOLVED. NEGATIVE #2: The second set of red lights we ordered seemed to test fine. We put the batteries in and turned it on. While still wrapped up in the packaging ball, all the lights looked like they were working. When I got about halfway done installing them, I noticed one of the lines was ripped. I hit the power button and noticed only half the lights were working. I decided to try to repair the wire but it was so thin that it was impossible for me with my limited amount of tools so I just cut the line at that point and tied it off on the wheel. I was going to leave it that way but decided to reach out to the company to see if they would swap it out which leads to the POSITIVE. OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! In a world of pushing phone buttons to talk to a robot that leads you to someone that many times can't help you with your issue, I can assure you that is not going to happen with these guys. I called the 1-800 number on their website and got an out of office recording. I left a message and we within 5 hours a member of their staff sent me a text message and an email with instructions on how to get a replacement. Keep in mind, I told them that it was working but only half. I offered to send it back for a swap but they told me to hang on to it and they sent me a promotion code for a new one through Amazon. I received the promotion code got the new one on order. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product for adults and kids alike. It adds a big safety factor to night riding and they are fun to watch.

These are nice because they combine visibility and style. The safety side matters, especially for riding in lower light, but the fun visual effect is what makes them more exciting than plain safety gear. That is why they also make a good gift item for kids or casual riders. A simple accessory that makes a bike stand out more at night. Read description before purchasing and don’t make the mistake I did! I didn’t realize this was for only one wheel not both! Other than that it’s really easy to install and the kids loved them!

These lights are AMAZING! Our family rides at dusk to dark every evening due to work schedules. Not only do they keep us much safer as we are highly visible and provide lots of light in what would be dark bikes trails, but they look really cool. We have received so many compliments and had a lot of other cyclists ask us about them and where to get them. We actually carry post-its in our bike bag that have the name of the company and the amazon link for them. We have bought several for friends & family members as well as a Christmas gift. We posted the above photo on our facebook along with a link to amazon to get the lights as well. I would also like to add that out of 11 different sets (22 boxes of lights) that we have bought we only had issues with 3 strings. They looked used when they arrived so possibly we received lights that had been returned to amazon, which would be an amazon issue not the seller. However we reached out to Activ lites and let them know about the lights that were not working right, and within 3 days we had 3 brand new boxes of lights and a letter apologizing for the bad lights. That is excellent customer service right there buddy!! BUY THESE LIGHTS for you, your kids, your friends & everyone and lets light up the bike trails one bike at a time!! You won’t be sorry. They are super easy to install, they come with the zip ties pre-installed and if you have to move them for some reason they even send a 2nd set of zip ties, as well as the batteries for the lights. They make great gifts! Huge thanks to Activ lites for replacing our bad lights so fast! ~ A happy and bright family of cyclists!

My husband and I bought 2 pairs of Activ Lites for our kiddos. The mulitcolor (pink, white, blue, green) sets were for our daughter and the patriotic (red, white, blue) sets were for our son. We're even considering purchasing 2 more pairs for our bikes, that's how much we like the lights. From my experiencing: 1) If you put them on a 12 inch wheel bike, it will take you probably 45 mins to an hour to wrap them all the way around, especially if you try to get the lights around each spoke. If you put them on a 16 inch wheel bike, then it will take you half the time, that's because there is only 1 light per spoke to wrap around. If you are particular about how "nice" your lights look, then it will take longer than you would probably guess to put each light around each spoke and for the wire to look neat and stay secure 2) I was a little disappointed when I opened the boxes because I wasn't expecting a strand of lights that was made of 2 very thin wires bound together at each light. I realized very quickly that you have to be careful not to pull too hard or they will brake. I also noticed it was going to take a lot of patience when wrapping them around each spoke while holding down the wire on the spoke so that it wouldn't become so loose that it slid down the spoke. To be honest, I was ready to throw in the towel and return the lights when I realized how time consuming this was going to be. But my kids really wanted to see the lights on their bikes so I stuck it out and I'm glad that I did. 3) Later on, when trying to remove a pair of lights from a 12 inch bike to place on a 16 inch bike, I experienced trouble with the wire not standing up to the removal process. Both the front wheel and the back wheel light strands broke before I could even take them off of 2 spokes. Thankfully they have a life time warranty so I was able to get them replace. 4) My biggest gripe about the lights is the instillation process. The video does help in showing how to do most of the steps but not a realistic time stamp on how the wire gets wrapped around the spokes. It states about wrapping the wire around each spoke 2 times. I did try that and didn't like the way the lights ended up in the spaces in between the spokes. My suggestion is be patient and take your time, because once the lights are on there the way you want, you will be happy with the look. 5) The only other issue we experienced is that one of the sets didn't work right out of the box. They had no problem replacing that set though, I just returned them and they sent me a replacement. The life time warranty I mentioned earlier is a plus just in case your lights are defective later on. 6) We use rechargable batteries and rarely need to charge them. The lights are definitely bright enough that people notice them and give us compliments all the time. We also like to ride our bikes at night time so they act as an excellent source of safety when vehicles drive by. I will say that having the traditional bike lights for the front and back of your bike is still a must if you're going to ride at night time because you can't see any better in front of your bike with these lights and vehicles driving the same vertical directions that you are traveling won't be able to see the lights. Only vehicles traveling in horizontal directions can see the lights. I hope this lengthy review gives you all the insight you would need to help assist you in deciding if you want to purchase Activ Lites. They reply to emails quickly and make an wrong situations right for the customer.

I was initially excited about these, but they broke within a few months. One snagged and broke (the wire is pretty thin), while the other just stopped working - I think a short or something (replacing the battery didn't fix it).

In the order of how often I'd use them, whether the lights were easy to install, the quality of the lights, how long the battery lasted, and other comments I had on them: I would use these on my bike every 2 weeks or so on night-time rides on campus and would ride around for anywhere between 2 to 5 hours long. The lights were sometimes a pain to install, but then again, I would install them in the dark surrounded by the other bikes in close proximity; if you aren't cramped like I was when installing the lights, it would be far easier to install the lights. On the occasions that I did not install them cramped having to worry about hitting other bikes, the process would take me about 3-7 minutes, otherwise it would take about 10-15 minutes. It's just setting up the plastic rubber bands on the center of your bike (axle? I only cared about brakes and whether my tires had air), looping the thin wire down to be near the edge of the rims, and looping the wire up and down over each of the metal tire line things. See the end for additional comments. The lights themselves were bright and did not diminish in intensity during the 8 months or so that I used them. They were easily noticeable and helped in being seen when walking my bike through intersections at night. They were also bright and a nice green, nearly as bright as advertised (the advertisement has them to show as blinding X^D). I do not remember if they came with batteries but surprisingly, I don't think I ever had to swap out the batteries during the time I used them. As I mentioned before, I used these lights for about 8 months for anywhere between 2-5 hours every two weeks or so. Finally, my final opinion on these lights are that they are great and that I would buy them again. One thing to note is that you should not install them when stressed or tug on the wires hard as that is how I broke one of two that I purchased. The light still works and I am sure I can add something to prevent any accidents, but do be aware that the wires are a bit fragile. They are not cheaply made though, but should still be treated with some care. I hope this helped some of you, have a good one.
