This book explores the unique aspects involved in the management of ECMO patients such as physiopathology and indications, setting up the device, monitoring ECMO and the patient, troubleshooting, ethical aspects and rehabilitation. For the past eight years, management of acute heart failure and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) patients has been improved by the development of short-term assistance devices, with ECMO as a first line treatment. This highly informative book provides essential insights for ICU nurses at ECMO centers around the world, who face the substantial challenges involved in the management of ECMO patients. Above all, it meets their training needs with regard to bedside monitoring for these patients, which has become a major issue. The editors and most of the contributors serve at La Pitié-Salpétrière ICU, France, which, in terms of the number of admissions and major publications produced, is one of the world’s leading authorities on ECMO. A great supplemental book for staff caring for ECMO patients
Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) has become a shorten way to refer to different uses of ECMO such as Extracorporeal Life Saving (ECLS), or VenoVenous (ECMO-VV) or VenoArterial (ECMO-VA). All are based on cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). ECMO is a very complex subject requiring lots of advanced training and Nursing Care and ECMO is an excellent resource with detailed pictures. It is best in the chapters dealing with monitoring, troubleshooting & appropriate actions and transporting the ECMO patient out of hospital. For a 2017 book, it is missing a chapter on mobility of the patient on ECMO. While I strongly recommended this book. it does not replace the official training ECMO Red book (ECMO: Extracorporeal Cardiopulmonary Support in Critical Care, Red Book) nor the ECMO: Specialist Training Manual. This is a review of the hardback book, not the Kindle version.

scant information
This tiny, children's book length text provides no new information for clinicians who already work in an ECMO centre. It should cost $5, not $40+.

Libro in Inglese
