Comfortable but short
It's nice and comfortable. The reason for not giving it the 5 stars is because It's a little bit too short. I'm 5'9 and my ankles float out of the pillow where feet are supposed to rest. Still comfortable enough not to return.

Excellent substitute for adjustable bed when traveling but don’t buy the bag!
This has been one of the best things I ever bought. I have had severe pain for over thirty years. When I am not at home and cannot sleep in my adjustable bed, I suffer. The price on this made me hesitate but I got desperate. It was worth every penny! I wake up with markedly less pain. I bought the wider set—it would be nice if they had a set that was still wider but it is possible to use pillows to make up the difference. Two areas of criticism: First, the bag. I bought the storage bag because I know I will be traveling with these. This bag is a WASTE OF MONEY. The zipper is cheap and the fabric is dollar store canvas. Whoever designed this bag needs to go back to engineering school. A kid could have done a better job. You need their paper guide to get the pillows to fit and even then getting them in there is a struggle. I knew it was only a matter of time before either the zipper broke or the fabric tore—it happened the third time. I sew. I can tell you there is absolutely no reason for this terrible design or the tight fit. Considering they are charging you almost 50 bucks for it, there is no reason for the absolute abysmal quality either. Save your money, make your own or use a trash bag because that’s what you’ll end up doing anyway. They should be ashamed of themselves. Second: There is an inch of memory form over regular foam. I find that the back portion is changing shape somewhat as I sleep on it. It still works great. Also, it’s hot. The covers are removeable and wash up well but putting them back on requires good spacial skills. I covered the whole thing with a twin fitted sheet. It’s easier to remove and wash and cuts the heat a bit. Even with the downsides, it is worth the money. Just don’t buy the stupid bag!

If you have lower back problems, just buy it!
I don’t usually write reviews, but I’m doing this one to help others. I have a myriad of back problems including scoliosis, degenerative disc disease, and flat back. It has gotten so bad if I stand for any length of time, the pain running down the back of my leg is excruciating. It seems I can’t sleep in a bed anymore because the pain and stiffness in the morning is unbearable. I have a Tempurpedic which I don’t recommend. I’ve tried various other beds and nope. I haven’t tried everything out there, but not super excited to spend $5K plus on a new bed. While searching for chair supports, I ran into this. Seemed kinda speedy for foam, but I was desperate. It has been worth every penny. I use the zero gravity set up to sleep and while I still have a bit of pain in the morning, it’s NOTHING like sleeping in a bed. I can actually stand up without much pain in the morning. It takes all of the pressure off my lower back. My bad has a chance to unclench and actually relax and rest. I also use a memory foam lumbar support cushion because the lumbar bump on the Backmax isn’t much and the extra support cushion really helps. I am a 6’ tall, about 175 lbs, woman. I bought the 28” and while my shoulders fit, they lay flat on the back piece which causes me dull pain. I use bed pillows on both sides to support my arms which is much better. I wish there were zipper-on arms. Speaking of which…spend the extra money…you want this one with zippers. I don’t see how separate pieces would work. I’m sure they’d come apart, plus, in my sleep I’d probably push them away and turn on my side. I am so comfortable on this that I don’t move around and it keeps me from being able to turn over anyway. I tried using the system on top of my bed, but I found it lost support. I keep it on the floor with a rug underneath. When you first sit down you’ll feel the hard floor under your behind, but once you lie back you kind of lift up and don’t feel the floor nor any weight on your behind. It’s awkward to to get off of it because of the shape, so you may struggle a little bit if you have limited mobility getting up off the ground. I sort of flip/roll off to the side, get to my knees then up from there. While I am plenty comfortable on this without a pillow and sometimes prefer that, it comes with an extra, softer neck pillow which isn’t bad. I tried a contour pillow, but due to the angle and firmness of the back cushion, it pushed my head up too much. As far as length goes, at 6 feet with a 34 inch inseam, with the expandable section between the the back and knee piece, I just make it. I’m too tall for using the foot cushion flipped forward, so I fold it back on the knee section and my feet are at the end without hanging off. You could just remove that part, but I don’t find it comfortable with my feet down and I think it takes away from the zero gravity. I think that if you are shorter than maybe 5’5, the proportions might be too long, and if you have an inseam longer than 34”, possibly too short, but I’d suggest trying it. As I write this, I’m visiting my mother. I ordered a second Backmax for her house, but, unfortunately, it didn’t arrive until the second day. I spent the night in the guest bed and all I can say is thank God I ordered the second one and it got here! If you are in pain and struggle to sleep because you need more lower back support and keep your spine straight, buy this thing!!!! The $250 is pennies compared to the relief I feel. Best wishes that you feel better!

Addicted! I can’t sleep without this now
I bought this product in Dec 2022 for my 360 lipo, and bbl post op procedure. After looking at dozens of YouTube videos and trying almost all reasonable methods suggested there, this is the one and only product that made me sleep well and feel very comfortable post op and no fat was compromised from my procedure because even though you’re lying on your back, there wasn’t any real pressure on those areas because of how your body is positioned on the pillows. I only was supposed to use this product for 6 weeks. However, Its now July and I’m literally addicted to sleeping on it. Yes it’s been just that awesome for me! Also, I’ve always wanted to be a back sleeper because I naturally used to always sleep on my side with my hands tucked under my face and when I awoke each morning, I didn’t like seeing lines of demarcation on my face from my hands being under my face or the bed impressions on my face. Well after having side joint pains, and seeing older people in my family who have slept that way for decades and now the sides of their faces have permanent heavy indents, deep wrinkles and demarcation areas from sleeping like that (especially on the side they sleep on the most), I’ve really been trying like hell to stop myself from sleeping on my sides like that. And this wonderful product has finally resolved that issue for me! And I just feel well rested, my under eyes are no longer swollen when I awake, no lines on my face in the morning when I awake because i no longer sleep on my sides because this product provides good head elevation while you’re resting and its prevents side sleeping. I experience true beauty rest indeed. Furthermore as an avid weight lifter I used to have an aching left hip issue. Seen a sports doctor for it but to no avail. I don’t have that issue anymore because with this product, I no longer sleep on my sides which evidently was the culprit causing my aching joint issues when I thought all along it was the heavy weights I was lifting. When I first started using this, I’d wake up with numb arms because blood wasn’t circulating properly during the night so I started putting a pillow on each side of my body to prop my arms up so my arms would be elevated with the rest of my body and that quickly resolved the issues. I must warn you though that if you fall in love with this product like I have, it’s gonna be very hard for you to travel and try to sleep in regular beds. I tried that a few weeks ago (because I couldn’t take this huge thing with me on vacation of course) and it was an absolute nightmare trying to now sleep the regular way. I’m not sure how to resolve this because I definitely don’t want to lug this huge thing around with me on trips. Lastly your partner might also not like you having this in the bed with you because it is huge. I don’t have that problem, but it is something to consider if you have someone sleeping with you nightly.
