A must for any kind of slow shutter shots
Convenient, and a must for any kind of long exposure shots to prevent any kind of shake from pressing the shutter. Allows for half press for auto focus, or full press to take the shot. Cord is easily wrapped around unit, and there are 2 slots to hold it in place, and an opening on the bottom to hold the plug too. Fit's in my pocket without weighing me down, it works great. I use this on a Canon 80D and a Canon T3i, but it is compatible with any Canon that has the input on the side of the camera for this jack, which I think is most of their DSLR cameras, if not all. A note - more modern cameras that have NFC, bluetooth, and WIFI have access to an app on your smartphones called Canon Camera Connect, which lets you use your smartphone as a remote trigger, as well as a live view preview, and a secondary controller for the camera. It can even add geotagging for cameras that don't have GPS! It kind of makes things like this obsolete, but there is still room for it in my bag thanks to its simplicity. Another note - If you don't have one of these and you want to prevent shake during long exposures, you can set the timer on your camera so that it opens the shutter. Some can be set to 2 seconds, more than enough time to move away from the camera. Just remember to set it back to normal when you are done or you will likely ruin a shot in the future. A warning - I have since writing this review learned that this item is tagged as "non-returnable" by Amazon. I hear that even applies to defective items, which seems wrong but I have not had the experience of trying to deal with this. I did want to offer a suggestion though, to anyone that might get a bad one and can't return it to Amazon.... Go to any store that sells this item. Buy it, but it has to be the EXACT item. Take it out of the store and swap it with the bad one. Take it back to the store and tell them it was defective and that you want a refund. They will refund your money and you now have a replacement. If they ask if you just want to exchange it say no. If they ask why, just make up a reason. Tell them this is the final straw, or you have no confidence in the item, or something like that. Something confrontational that will get them to just shut up and give you your refund. And you don't even have to feel bad about it. They will jsut send it to the manufacturer to get a credit or be issued a new one. I have been on both sides of this, it all works out for everyone. It is a little underhanded, but it gets you your replacement.

Does exactly what it says
As others have pointed out, the name might be a little misleading on this item. It is what most would call a shutter release as opposed to a remote. Calling it a "Remote Switch" implies to some that it is wireless. But the picture and description clearly state it is corded, so you're basically just arguing semantics at that point. Even Canon calls it a remote switch, so take it up with them. In my mind, the major reason to buy this is to eliminate the very little but potentially noticeable shake your hand exerts on the camera when you take a long-exposure shot. Those who are complaining about not being able to take self-portraits or the other limitations of a 2ft. cord need to look at the existing wireless solutions; there are different tools for different needs. And I don't know about you, but I'm a big fan of not having a few feet of slack cable hanging down from the a tripod that's top-heavy and holding ~$3,000 worth of equipment. I'd rather the cord be relatively short so anyone walking by doesn't accidentally snag it and pull down my whole setup. If you're shooting immediately behind the camera, the cord is long enough; my wife has even used it to keep her hands in her pockets during cold shoots, and it had slack enough for that. All that said, it does what it says it does: act as an extension of the shutter button while easily allowing you to make extra-long exposures. The build quality doesn't feel great, but I've dropped it several times and have it packed in the large pocket of our main camera bag that it shares with many other accessories, and it still works perfectly. I think part of it is that the device's electronics are very small and simple, so it's very light and feels cheap even though it might be pretty well constructed. Unless you're going to be far away from your camera while shooting or otherwise need the range, this will work perfectly and, unlike the wireless switches, does not require batteries that always seem to die at the worst times. I personally prefer wired connections where possible because, with all things considered, they are more reliable than wireless ones. A note: this does not work with the 40D/50D models. We got this for our Rebel XT and thought it might be usable with the 50D we recently bought, but no go. Understandable, but it would have been nice to not have to buy another one. Pros: - Reduces shake during long exposures - Allows photographer to keep hands in pockets during cold shoots - Wired, so doesn't depend on batteries Cons: - Overpriced - I would say cord length, but if you're looking for long range, you shouldn't even be looking at this item - Can't continue using it if you upgrade to anything higher than the 40D

Great Trigger Switch; See Compatible Cameras Below
I purchase this for my Canon Rebel T4i and it works Great. Before this one I was using a wireless system but switched. I love the simplicity and compact design of this trigger. It is small enough to fit in your pocket and pull out anytime you may need it. The cord is a bit short but can be extended by buying the correct adapter/ cable from any Radio Shack. Simple yet most Useful Product
This is a very simple remote control. It provides just the bare minimum capability that one would want in a remote control. Used with my Rebel XTi, it supports the 1/2 depressed auto-focus and exposure and the fully depressed shutter release. It also has a nice, simple slide plate that will lock the button in the fully depressed position to hold the shutter open for the "long duration" exposures. The product is made entirely of plastic (which feels a bit flimsy; but is surprisingly rugged in my experience) and has an oval cross section (which takes a little getting used to). Being made of plastic, this product is very lightweight (which is a plus in my opinion). My only complaint, echoed by several other reviewers, is that the connecting cable is very short. In fact, in my estimation, it is even too short for when you actually want to be close to the camera (which is the case for me doing a fair amount of close-up macro-photography). It is so short that I have a hard time making sure I don't bump the camera. But the good news is that, as at leat one other reviewer noted, you can easily get an extension from any electrical supply house or from Radio Shack. The plug is an 8/32" stereo plug and, if you get your extension from Radio Shack, you'll need to gat a couple of 8/32"-to-1/4" stereo adapters and use the 1/4" stereo extension cords (the one I got is 14 feet long). Total cost was about $5 so it's no big expense. My only complaint with my solution is that the adapters stick out quite a bit from the body of the camera and they can cause torque on the camera if you're not careful to ensure that there isn't any tension pulling on the adapter. I am most happy with this product. For me, it is a much better solution than the wireless solutions which (1) require you to be almost directly in front of the camear and (2) which, in my experience, tend to frequently but inadvertantly get the infrared signal showing up in the photograph. It is a shame that Canon doesn't make the cable on the product about another foot to two feet longer. I think that show poor engineering judgement on Canon's part. But the problem is easily enough remidied so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this product to anyone looknig for an inexpensive, simple, and flexible solution to remote triggering of their Canon cameras.

Canon Remote Switch RS60E3 Review
I bought this remote switch Canon Remote Switch RS60 E3 because there would be times that I would have to be behind the camera and the wireless remote that I already have did not work from behind the camera. I also like that you can lock the shutter open for a longer exposure. For my intended use of this remote I am very please with it. This remote will also work on Canon SX50 HS and the following cameras below listed. *Digital Rebel XSi *Digital Rebel XTi *EOS 60D Body *EOS 60D Body Refurbished *EOS 60D EF-S 18-135mm IS Lens Kit *EOS 60D EF-S 18-135mm IS Lens Kit Refurbished *EOS 60D EF-S 18-200mm IS Lens Kit *EOS 60Da Body *EOS 60Da Body Refurbished *EOS 70D EF-S 18-135mm IS STM Kit *EOS 70D EF-S 18-55mm IS STM Kit *EOS Digital Rebel *EOS Digital Rebel XT *EOS Digital Rebel XT Black with EF-S 18-55 Lens Refurbished *EOS Digital Rebel XT Silver with EF-S 18-55 Lens Refurbished *EOS Digital Rebel XTi with EF-S 18-55 Lens Refurbished *EOS ELAN 7 / 7E *EOS ELAN 7N *EOS ELAN II *EOS ELAN IIE *EOS IX LITE *EOS M Black EF-M 22mm STM Lens Kit *EOS Rebel 2000 *EOS Rebel G *EOS Rebel G II *EOS Rebel SL1 Body *EOS Rebel T1i (Body) *EOS Rebel T1i Body Refurbished *EOS Rebel T1i EF-S 18-55mm IS Lens Kit Refurbished *EOS Rebel T1i with EF-S 18-55mm IS *EOS Rebel T2 *EOS Rebel T2i Body *EOS Rebel T2i Body Refurbished *EOS Rebel T2i EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit *EOS Rebel T2i EF-S 18-55mm IS Lens Kit Refurbished *EOS Rebel T3 Black EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit *EOS Rebel T3 Black EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit Refurbished *EOS Rebel T3 Brown EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit *EOS Rebel T3 Brown EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit Refurbished *EOS Rebel T3 Metallic Gray EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit *EOS Rebel T3 Metallic Gray EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit Refurbished *EOS Rebel T3 Red EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit *EOS Rebel T3 Red EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit Refurbished *EOS Rebel T3i Body *EOS Rebel T3i Body Refurbished *EOS Rebel T3i EF-S 18-135mm IS Lens Kit *EOS Rebel T3i EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit *EOS Rebel T3i EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit Refurbished *EOS Rebel T4i 18-135mm IS STM Lens Kit Refurbished *EOS Rebel T4i 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit Refurbished *EOS Rebel T4i Body *EOS Rebel T4i Body Refurbished *EOS Rebel T4i EF-S 18-135mm IS STM Lens Kit *EOS Rebel T4i EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit *EOS Rebel T5i 18-55mm IS STM Lens Kit *EOS Rebel T5i Body *EOS Rebel T5i EF-S 18-135mm IS STM Lens Kit *EOS Rebel TI *EOS Rebel X *EOS Rebel XS Black EF-S 18-55mm IS Lens Kit Refurbished *EOS Rebel XS EF-S 18-55 IS Lens Kit *EOS Rebel XSi Body Refurbished *EOS Rebel XSi EF-S 18-55mm IS Lens Kit Refurbished *EOS Rebel XSi Silver Body Refurbished *EOS T5i 18-135mm IS STM Lens Kit Refurbished *EOS T5i 18-55mm IS STM Lens Kit Refurbished *EOS T5i Body Refurbished *PowerShot G1 X *PowerShot G16

Simple, well made, reasonable price
I kept trying to use the built-in wifi on my Canon EOS 70D camera. Too much of a nuisance. All I want to do is trigger the shutter to take a picture without touching the camera in order to minimize vibration. I finally decided to get this wired remote switch and it works great. If you want to be included in a few posed family photos, then wifi works fine to trigger the shutter from your phone. But if you're taking pictures over a long period of time such as the solar eclipse, then this wired remote is the answer. At least for the 70D, wifi uses too much power and takes too many steps to reconnect if the camera goes to sleep.

Simple wired remote, works well on a Canon 70D
A remote is a must-have for tripod shots, to help minimize you as a source of vibration. This simple remote works great - just started using it for a Canon 70D. Switch can be depressed halfway for focusing and all the way for shutter. Also has a lock function to help with long exposures. Note alternatives also available for the 70D (and most other Canon DSLRs) - the Canon RC-6 wireless remote which allows immediate or 2 second delay shutter modes http://smile.amazon.com/Canon-RC-6-Wireless-Controller-Digital/dp/B0037NX6JY/ and the AmazonBasics remote http://smile.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Wireless-Remote-Control-Canon/dp/B00BCEJ0E0/ which only allows 2 second delay shots. I have the AmazonBasics remote but wish I had bought the Canon RC-6 instead as I would like to have the immediate shutter option. The wired remote is handy when you are trying to carefully control the shot and shutter and using LiveView - no need to reach around the front of the camera to activate the shutter with the wireless remote. But the wire attached means there might be a slight vibration if you aren't careful with the cable. I like having both a wired and wireless remote to give me options and they are small and lightweight so can be easily carried anywhere. One quick tip - the tiny manual that comes with the remote doesn't explain the hole in the bottom but I found an older copy online - you can wind the cable around the remote and plug it into the bottom (and the notches on the side help to hold the cable), which helps with packing.

Saved my vacation
I broke my right arm two weeks before a vacation to Algeria and thought my photography would be be voided. Instead, my sis (who owns this exact make and model) suggested I buy this Canon remote switch. The shipping was very fast: I bought and got it within a week. I held my SLR with my left hand and the switch in my right hand. Trigger response is identical to the switch on the body of my Canon Eos Rebel Ti 2003 35mm film camera. Very fast on the half-point, instantaneous on the shutter release. There is no delay. The cord is just long enough for maneuverability without getting entangled in my neck strap. I even held my camera high over my head during the wedding to get some nice wide-angle shots and used the remote switch to get the shots. I held my camera in my lap and pointed it out the window to get some candid shots during cab and car rides. It is very discreet; no one knows you're pushing the shutter release when you're just holding the camera in your hand without a finger on the visible trigger. I truly enjoyed this switch and will continue to use it after my arm is healed. Excellent price point, high-quality plastic and secure plug into the camera body. My sis recommended this to me and I recommend it to you.

Excellent
I used this remote for capturing the recent solar eclipse. It worked wonderfully. There are no batteries required and is extremely easy to use. It's size make it easy to carry in the camera bag itself. This is a very effective aid for taking pictures with slow shutter speed. I am satisfied.
