Need High-Speed, External Data Access for Your SSD? This is the Answer...
I had a problem: how can I get my 4TB SSD on my main system backed up, fast? My good old, 3TB Apricorn USB3 external HDD was taking all day to do so, and I wanted to go faster. I had a spare Samsung 980PRO 2TB SSD available and wanted to leverage it. Enter the Dockcase SSD Enclosure. The enclosure is an ultra-compact, gorgeous piece of glass and aluminum that has generous fins and even a variable-speed fan for cooling. It has a smart display that gives you all the drive stats you need, and its position can be easily rotated for easily visibility in any position via the built-in case keys. It comes with a quality, certified power/data USB-C to USB-C cable rated to 10Gbps, and sports a built-in power loss protection, capacitive backup power supply to help the drive keep going during brief power sags. Drive installation was a snap, and the kit even comes with the proper Philips driver and extra screws. My 980PRO worked flawlessly, and using Hasleo Backup Suite I was able to back up my entire system in about an hour and a half. All the while as I monitored the process, the drive stayed cool and stable, along with the power supply and efficiency. It was like the first time I used a USB3 thumb drive to copy a number of large files, it was impressive, all those years ago. The verdict: 5 Stars, easily and hands down. The compatibility this enclosure has, coupled with its high-speed connectivity as well as overall build quality it represents a great value for the money. I can't recommend this enclosure enough, especially if you have a good, high-capacity SSD sitting around you'd like to leverage for a similar purpose. If your use case scenario is like mine give it a try, it won't disappoint you. Since the rated capacity of the SSDs compatible with the enclosure is 4TB, I am looking forward to replacing the 980PRO with my 4TB 990PRO in the future, which extends the value proposition even further. All of this for under $40 with free Amazon Prime shipping the next day makes this an easy choice for those who desire similar capabilities. Thank you very much for reading, I hope my review helped you make an informed purchase decision. Thanks also to Dockcase for providing us all with an excellent, high-quality and high-speed solution we need and appreciate; take care and God bless all.

High quality NVMe enclosure
Compact high quality enclosure. Screen shows all the information you would need about your M.2 SSD. It gets very warm when constantly reading/writing but that is normal. Mine only got up to 45C. I'm using it with a 1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus. Speeds are very good with USB 3.1 Gen2 ports on my PC. I wish it came with a silicone protective case like on the manufacturers website.

Informative M.2 SSD Enclosure
I love this Enclosure. It gives you all the necessary details on your SSD and read and write speeds. Also Drive info. I actually get about 13 seconds of backup power for consistent reliable reads and writes.

Great Enclosure at a semi premium price
Great device doesn’t disconnect like others. Stays cool and gives great info to readout on your ssd. As well having the external powered option is handy for devices that don’t give out enough power in their USB c ports

The best of the bunch, but I could wish for better
Pros: - Visual heath display with a surprising amount of data available - Has a port for external power (see Comments below) - Doesn't require one-use thermal pads, making swapping NVMe sticks easy and painless - Appears to dissipate heat well - The host has access to limited SMART data - Tech support is responsive and quite helpful Cons: - Requires UASP disabled under Linux, halving throughput - Most SMART data is unavailable, though still better than some competing brands - No support for FSTRIM (as clearly stated) Thoughts: 1) This has a port to apply external power, and you probably need to use it. This is not a fault of the device, but simply because the power demands of an NVMe stick can go as high as 20w (2A @ 5v), and even my desktop system had problems pushing that much power out the USB-C port. The competing brands don't have this, in which case you'd need to insert a higher end USB powered hub between those units and your system. So 2) I had lots of trouble with this unit until tech support advised me that under Linux I probably needed to turn off UASP support for this device. They call it a known Linux bug, but the Linux developers may view it differently. In any case, extra steps are required to configure your LInux system for this device, and I'm told it will cut the transmission speed in half as a result. Summary: If you need an NVMe enclosure, this is the best I've found. Functional, workable, but not the easy ride we've been use to with SSD disk enclosures that just plugged in and worked the same as if they were plugged into the mainboard directly.
