Does this have to be installed in a doorway and if so why?

Installing this over a doorway allows room for your body -- you don't want to try to do pullups with your face and body up against a wall!

What is the size of each hole for the screws?

The size of all holes for the screws is 9*20mm.

what is the actual diameter of the bar?

I believe they advertised 1.3 inches and is solid. I felt it I wish it was 1 inch so that it would be closer in size to the diameter of the pull-up bars at the gym.

Do i need to worrry about drilling into wires when setting this above a door frame?

Maybe you should ask your building management to see if there are some wires above your door frame, if it is, change another place to install the pull up bar. Thank you!
