Canary Flex Black

I decided to try out the Canary Flex after receiving rave reviews from a good friend. As promised, it was exceptionally simple to set up and I had it streaming to my phone in no time. Although I primarily purchased the camera for security reasons, I’ve also been able to use it to check on my dog while I’m at work. This has been equal parts hilarious and exasperating; the latter because I now realize how much time he spends doing all the things he isn't supposed to do (like licking pillows). Luckily, I can yell at him using the two-way talk function; unluckily, he doesn’t seem to care. Either way, the audio and video quality are fantastic, as is the zoom function. I would highly recommend this camera to anyone concerned about home security or merely interested in seeing the less impressive side of their beloved pets.

Its easy to set up compared to the non-branded/basic products on amazon . i bought this because of the set up issues i was having on other cameras and have a canary device in my house. its set up is really slick. However, the hardware isnt and stopped working after the first heavy downpour. i live in the uk so rain is never far away and cant help think this wasn't really designed for the weather exposure. It stopped charging and i think its just the cable attachment at the back of the camera looks like water would easily get into it and it did.

A great little security camera which we've also been using as a baby monitor. It's a sleek and neat design, and works from battery which is a really great touch if you want to move it around with ease. The 24 hour recording feature is a real bonus - we've also got a Nest Cam and there's no free recording included with it, so the Canary is a much better option for us. The picture and sound quality is great, and notifications mean you know exactly what is going on at home if you're away. The GPS setting means it switches on automatically when you leave home, and off again when you return. Would definitely recommend this.

Positives Really well made, beautifully packaged and a solid device. Doesn't stand out obviously like a camera - looks nice rather than ugly. Has a clear picture, wide angle lens and a reasonable plan (£79 for multiple cameras per year. Website seems to be able to show only 4 cameras, phone app shows all 5 of my Flex and Pro cameras). The price (with the normally offered £60 discount) is excellent and it’s often on Amazon deal of the day for even less. Very competitive. Seems very reliable in picking up movement. Very rarely picks up non-movement (heavy rain it will record at times and high contrast movement of plants in wind but it’s pretty accurate). I run my two Flex cameras off power but I have left it on for a couple of days and it only went down a few percent. My new one has been on for more than a day now and it’s still on 100%. High movement areas do run down the camera much quicker obviously. Locking base (extra purchase) is really flexible for positioning. If it’s being put within easy reach or by someone standing on a bin etc. you’ll need this more secure attachment. Good control and capture options from the app, including setting masked regions and setting up the depth of the sensor (near only, medium or far) Negatives: Can’t download videos from the website, only from the phone. Odd. Website version is great, but phone doesn’t seem to show all the videos recorded at times USB cable needs to be longer It needs some form of cable lock loop for a more secure attachment. My street facing one I glued on a window lock cable as a visual deterrent because it's near the front door. I do recommend, but this market now has a lot more options than 4 years ago when I bought my first Canary camera. Still a good option though and mine all work well together.

I honestly have no idea what people are talking about when it comes to this camera, I’ve had it a few months now and; Battery life - Amazing, I run solely on battery, it is set to the highest power use settings and I charge it once every 2-3 weeks! Even packaging says 6 days??? Maybe if you are constantly steaming the camera view? Picture - great; not quite as good as the indoor ones but not far off! Sound - again no problems! Mount - didn’t realise this is a magnetic mounter, but holds in place well; didn’t go walkies during storm Ciara or Dennis so happy!!! Limitations - think WiFi signal!!! If you know the camera range you know you need one, so whenever you intend putting it, check WiFi there first using your phone (helpful hint). As a side; I now have Canary Pro; Canary One and Flex and I will be investing in another flex!!!

Got this as I already have the wired Canary which has been problem free and reliable so far and expected the same from flex, but this was not the case Generally it's a nice looking camera and easy to set up but the 1st video stream was very blocky, repositioning it the next day indoors for testing and the quality was a lot better however my issues were with the following. Being a battery operated device for outdoor use it therfore needs to sleep to conserve battery. However on motion detection it either doesn't wake up or takes too long to wake up and begin recording anything useful. It got to the point where it was using up my time in trying to make a flawed product work. If the wake up time can be around half a second or better then this would be a viable product for me and many others. Half a second wakeup time is not unreasonable as older high end digicams wakeup in less than that when pressing the on button. So been sent back.

I have a canary indoor unit which works fine and gives me notifications and detections even when I was in France. However I bought this unit to cover the garden entry and therefore for use outside. I could not achieve a satisfactory motion detection trigger unless I was around eight feet from the sensor. I could adjust but the device would not keep motion detection settings for sensitivity. So in essence I lost any confidence in the device working as it should so I returned it. I'm not saying that the Flex does not work per se, I'm just surprised to have something not work very well for me considering the high price. Also the video output is not 1080 but 720 so there's product misinformation already. Also the UK support line does not seem to work even though I did use it a few weeks ago and I did talk to someone there. Not sure whats going on with that. I would recommend the indoor Canary Unit but not the Flex on the basis of my experience.

I've never previously used a security device but this has changed my opinion of them forever! It's really easy to set up and personalise to your needs. Whether it's checking what the dog's up to, letting you know when the maintenance guys are in or finding out whether the delivery man has been round - it's been a great way of keeping an eye on things in the house when we're not there! Brilliant audio and visual quality of the video alerts and great that you can sync the device with multiple phones in the household. Would definitely recommend.

Die Kamera hat eigentlich zufriedenstellend funktioniert. Nach ca. 18 Monaten plötzlich defekt. Sehr Schade. Dafür viel zu teuer.
