I checked out 5 deck building books to review when planning my own backyard, covered deck. I kept coming back to this book for information and ideas. I returned all the other books when I realized this one was by far the best. This book shows every step from removing grass to fancy designs to consider. I eventually bought this book because our deck building got delayed and I really wanted to have this book around when we started. I had thought I'd donate this book to my local library after I was done with it, but there are so many cool ideas in here that I'll probably end up keeping it and adding it to our library. Review: Better than average guide book. - I have several guide books on construction of decks, gazebos, sheds etc., this one seems to be a little bit above the average guide book. Nice detail throughout. Maybe a bit more on the pros and cons of ledger and free floating deck construction. Over all a good guide book specially for beginners.

Great reference & planning book
I will admit I bought this book after hitting my limit on renewing it from the library. It's that good. I checked out 5 deck building books to review when planning my own backyard, covered deck. I kept coming back to this book for information and ideas. I returned all the other books when I realized this one was by far the best. This book shows every step from removing grass to fancy designs to consider. I eventually bought this book because our deck building got delayed and I really wanted to have this book around when we started. I had thought I'd donate this book to my local library after I was done with it, but there are so many cool ideas in here that I'll probably end up keeping it and adding it to our library.

Better than average guide book.
I have several guide books on construction of decks, gazebos, sheds etc., this one seems to be a little bit above the average guide book. Nice detail throughout. Maybe a bit more on the pros and cons of ledger and free floating deck construction. Over all a good guide book specially for beginners.

Enjoyed the book. Has given me several ideas for the deck that we need to replace. Looking forward to designing my own deck now.

If your a new home owner or doing this project for first timer, Very necessary
I will be re-posting this post for 4 other books I bought just like this because they all show WONDERFUL information and pictures for different types of projects. All these books, Including this one show you How, Why, and Ideas. Their might be other books out their Better/Cheaper, but I haven't found them yet and so I am just sharing that I am VERY satisfied with this book and a must for the first time home owner or first time a person wants to tackle these projects

Deck book a good buy
This book was everything that I expected. All the advise and plans were easy to understand and follow. I would recommend this.

Worth It
Lot of fancy pictures of expensive decks in here that the do-it-yourselfer will probably never build, but it did give me the nuts and bolts of how to design and build my own above ground pool deck. Worth the read.

Very helpful book
I have been collecting different deck building books to give me idea's on how to build my deck. This book was very informative. I'm anxious to get started.

Great reference material
Useful reference book filled with tips and techniques. The plans included are for beautiful structures that are beyond the skills of most DIY'ers, but they are useful for reference to see how things fit together in more complex designs.
