Experience the breathtaking global phenomenon that has captivated audiences around the world. Written for the screen and directed by Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer thrusts audiences into the mind of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy), whose landmark work on the Manhattan Project created the first atomic bomb. An unprecedented cinematic event, Oppenheimer features an all-star cast that includes Emily Blunt, Oscar® winner Matt Damon, Oscar® nominee Robert Downey Jr., Oscar® nominee Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, and Oscar® winners Casey Affleck, Rami Malek and Kenneth Branagh. Review: Great biopic, great 4K - One of the best biopics out there, which is no surprise coming from the king of the high-budget spectacle, Christopher Nolan. The film wisely concentrates on the perspective of Oppenheimer himself, with glimpses into Lewis Strauss (Downey), both characters being subjected to a kind of trial. Beautiful acting from everyone. The 4K looks spectacular, nice use of IMAX film quality, subdued use of HDR. The included Blu-ray is almost as good, and the extras are typical Nolan affairs: trailers, a long documentary and one or two other featurettes. Review: The 4k full-screen aspect ratio is my favorite and more movies should have it! - One of my biggest pet peeves about home movies is that stupid black bar on the top and bottom of the screen. Most diologue scenes in this movie are still like that, but any scenes or shots that used an Imax camera are full screen in this Blu-ray and it's so satisfying to watch the black bars go away on a Hollywood movie. Picture looks great, and though I think it drags near the end it's a great movie.

Excellent movie…
Saw the movie on my birthday, the day it was released. Loved the 3 hour movie so I had to get it as soon as it was released. Excellent movie and excellent acting. Was able to stick to the history very well.

A Good Movie - Well Acted
A good movie about the background to the making of the Atom Bomb. Acting was good. I do have an issue with the "obligatory sex scene" which Hollywood is adamant about including where it is not required. Not that I am prudish: this movie would be good without it. Just my opinion.

20 minutes in imax, rest is blu ray blur
The film is fine. Oscar-worthy film, yes. One of the greatest movies of the century? Come on. But this review is about the 4k release. Just like the The Dark Knight trilogy 4k release, the picture quality varies wildly, with most of the film being normal film, and only about 20 minutes worth being imax shots. These 20 minutes are completely randomly inserted in the film, and this not being an action film, the choices sometimes are utterly baffling; it makes sense to include the subatomic rumination scenes in imax, or the Trinity explosion itself in imax, or vast sweeping landscapes of New Mexico in imax, but there's also instances where, for example, we will get an imax shot of Einstein dropping his hat, then it will immediately cut to regular film for the entire rest of the scene. This disc is filled with examples like this where entirely random cuts will be imax (noticeable by being a different aspect ratio, filling up the entire screen on a modern TV) in between the regular film shots (noticeable by having the black bars on top and bottom for a wider screen). As with The Dark Knight trilogy 4k release, only the imax shots are in true full-blown 4k quality. The rest looks like traditional Blu Ray. The movie was fine, I mostly enjoyed it, but what is the point of filming so much of it in imax and then releasing a 4k home video edition if the 4k doesn't take advantage of the heightened picture quality imax provides? If it's a matter of disc space, then charge more money for a full blown all-imax 4k, or just don't tease people with a release like this.

Great movie well presented on DVD (4K + Blu-Ray) plus disk of extra features (though needed more!)
First up, I'll say that I loved the movie, in that I have always been interested in atomic bomb history and have read many books on Oppenheimer, including "American Prometheus" on which the movie was based. The movie tells much of Oppenheimer's life and blends the story of Oppenheimer with that of Lewis Strauss (superbly played by Robert Downey, Jr.). The downsides of the movie are that there are a lot of characters introduced and also the storytelling sometimes jumps around - These two reasons are why you might want to see the movie more than once and better yet (in my opinion) read "American Prometheus" or Ray Monks' book on Oppenheimer. The movie definitely was one to see in a theatre with grand New Mexico vistas and impressive pyrotechnics, but transferred well to my 55-inch TV. It is a good DVD release and the colors and resolution on the 4K version (along with standard Blu-Ray) were excellent, along the sound and music. The DVD set comes with a collection of trailers, a feature on the film's IMAX filming, a panel interview with director Nolan, Kai Bird (the surviving author of "American Prometheus" ), the current director at Los Alamos, and two scientists. It also comes with a good documentary about Oppenheimer, including views of nuclear weapons policy after the war - really the heart of the movie, I think . Nolan tells us in the panel interview that the film was made to remind us that nuclear weapons still are very much with us and a threat as Oppenheimer feared. The documentary was quite good and I am guessing (didn't time it) is about 90 minutes long. If you are not that familiar with who Oppenheimer was, I would definitely recommend seeing the documentary that comes with the set before watching the movie. A very good set to have for home viewing (comes with a code for digital viewing). The only complaint I had with the set is that it did not have commentary tracks - I would have liked to hear from Nolan and the cast, along with another track by a couple of historians who knew Oppenheimer and his time. Highly recommended!!

Sad waste of money
I would love to have watched this CD, but I could not play it in Australia as it was not the right Region. As it was posted in Sydney I am at a loss to understand why I was sent a CD I could not play. Waste of money and an experience I will not repeat. Also missed the return date due to ill health.
