Nyko | Dockable, Thin Protective Hard Portable Travel Carry Shell Case with Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Nintendo Switch (Smoke)

Initial Impressions: Despite all of the negative reviews this has, I was surprised that it actually worked. It actually charged while docked and the green light stayed on so that was good. I attached a picture below of it docked and the light can be seen below. I like how it looks and feels on the case. The color gradient is pretty cool and it adds a touch of color to the plain black. I wanted a case I felt comfortable using in handheld and not have to worry about removing it every time I wanted to dock it and ultimately scratching it from either the dock or removing the case. Will not protect from falls nor does it even claim to (I don't really plan on taking it out everywhere) but it will protect the Switch from scratches while docking which I find to be the real culprit of most minor marks. Application: I encountered no problems with putting the case on the Switch console. I made sure I aligned all the fasteners properly and secured tightly. I don't understand why everyone else had difficulty with it but I was able to put it on the first time correctly. Just make sure everything is aligned and you're applying this on a flat surface while you're pressing down every corner. As other reviews have mentioned, make sure you hear that loud final click to know it is secured. Pros: - Charges in docking mode (have charged it 3 or 4 times with no problems) - Thin enough to fit in my travel case (pictured below w/ joy con covers) - Comes with a tempered glass protector (already had one applied but good deal for 10-12 bucks) Cons: - No shock protection - Joy con covers suck The one thing I hated the most about this case were the joy con covers themselves. They were difficult to put on and nearly impossible to remove. It makes it difficult to use the release buttons which I did not like at all since I like transitioning from handheld to using the joy con grip while playing Zelda or something. Only good thing is that they fit in my travel case and look really good all together. I don't plan on using these too often. Overall the Nyko Thin Case is a solid product. If you want a case that protects your Switch while it is docked, this is the case for you. UPDATE: I only recommend this case for those who want to protect their case while docked and not worry about scratching it. If you want a more sturdy and shockproof case obviously this case isn't going to cut it. UPDATE 2: I've had this for 4 months now and it still works great. I've had no issues using it while docked in the TV and it doesn't hinder the signal or charging at all. Still works great.

I bought this thin case to protect my switch when using it in handheld mode. To start, I like the case. I was looking through all the thin cases when I came across this one. At first, I was a bit hesitant due to the reviews saying it was hard to install and such. After looking into it more, I decided to give it a try. One important thing to note, this case is thin and so it needs extra care when handling. Since this case can fit in the dock with ease, the plastic is obviously a bit flimsy. Protection wise, you're not going to get much of it. The best this case can do is protect it from scuffs and small scratches, which is why I bought this. I also loved the fact that it can fit my dock. Another great feature that caught my eye was the screen protector. It is tempered glass and super easy to install. As of installing the case, the process was pretty easy. I recommend attaching the back piece first, then you can lay the top piece. I would recommend pushing each clasp down and push until you hear the click. The cutouts are perfect and I have access to everything: stand, game card, ect. To note: If you install the joycon grips, be prepared to have them on for a while. Also, they do not fit the joy con controller that comes with the switch. The button to remove the joy cons are still accessible and pretty easy to push with the grips which is a major plus! If all you want is a case that will protect your switch from MINOR scuffs and bumps, I would recommend. This case definitely met and exceeded my needs.

UPDATE: TWO cases, same problem, but I think I found what's causing that problem. Would appreciate comments to my experience from anyone who has been able to get the Switch to dock with the case on. I was able to find another Nyko Thin Case at a local retailer. I put it on, and still, the Switch wouldn't dock. If I applied light pressure to the top of the Switch while it was docked, the Switch would dock just fine (exactly as I experienced with the first case I installed), but leaving my hand on top of the Switch or rubberbanding it to the dock isn't an acceptable work around, especially for an item that on the package says it is "Dock Compatible". Upon further investigation, I believe I identified the culprit: the case is simply not a tight enough fit around the Switch. It's so thin and flexible that it is flimsy and does not make tight contact all around the Switch. As such, there's a little give, just enough to cause a slight gap between the case and the Switch and thereby prevent the Switch from making proper contact with the connector at the bottom of the dock. I wish Amazon allowed us to upload videos as it is easy to demonstrate the issue that way. But in the absence of that, I will upload two photos of the bottom of the Switch where it plugs into the dock - one with the case as it is (untouched) and one with light pressure being applied around the case by hand. You'll notice in the photos that there is a gap between the case and the Switch that minimizes with the pressure. Unfortunately, the weight of the Switch alone does not apply enough pressure to the bottom of the case so as to overcome that gap and hence the docking problem. Clearly, some people are able to get this to dock. One reviewer noted that Nintendo had a problem with some of its docks bending inward and speculated that might be the cause. My dock is just fine. I have followed the YouTube installation video from Nyko that several other reviewers/commentators mentioned. Installation is just as Nyko demonstrates in the video and in the included instructions. Another reviewer remarked about the the case not being properly latched and suggested reinstalling the case. I have reinstalled both cases a dozen times, and the cases are snapped on correctly. When the cases aren't snapped correctly, even with light pressure, they won't connect at all in the dock. So, with 2 separate cases installed multiple times exactly as Nyko instructs and every latch clasped with an audible "click," the Switch won't dock with the case unless there's a constant, light pressure applied to the top of it. It took a while for these cases to be released. They were delayed months past the initial release date Nyko stated. Perhaps Nyko was feeling the pressure and rushed to fulfill inventory, even if that inventory was flawed and defective. Maybe some people were fortunate enough to get a better production run in which this gapping issue has been resolved. I don't know why some people have success while others don't, but I do know that the *two* cases I have now purchased have the exact same problem: they simply do not have a tight fit around the Switch. Nyko, what say you? -----Original Review----- After waiting through multiple changes in the ship date, I was excited to see this Nyko Thin Case finally show up at my door. Unfortunately, that's where the excitement stopped. The case was a little challenging to put on, but once on, it would NOT DOCK properly in the dock that came with the Switch. The only way I could get it to work was to apply some light pressure to the top of the Switch once it was docked, but that meant I'd have to keep pressure on the Switch to keep it docked. If I didn't do that, the Switch wouldn't make proper contact with the plug in the bottom of the dock and the signal to the TV would be lost. I read other reviews, and I noticed a reviewer commented about needing to reapply the case a few times before it would dock properly. I have taken off and reassembled the case 4 times, and it still doesn't work. The case is properly closed around the Switch. I snap every connector on the case into place, and I rub my fingers around the perimeter, making sure the case is uniform in where it has clasped together. All 4 times, it has been, and yet all 4 times, it won't dock! The best I can hope is that this case is defective. If the case were to dock, I honestly do not know that it would truly protect the Switch. Maybe it would, but when it won't dock - the manufacturer's advertised selling point on this item - what's the point? This was definitely *not worth the wait*!

I was a bit worried about this product when it was hit with multiple delays, even more so when I saw early reviews claiming it wasn't working properly. I'm not sure if I'm just lucky or not, but once mine arrived it worked perfectly. The whole thing was easy to assemble aside from a bit of fussing with the fasteners on the main case. The whole thing feels great to hold, and the two slits on the back make for a natural place to rest my fingers. And just like advertised it fit perfectly in my dock, even when I had one of these dock socks attached. The only problem I noticed was the pressing the release buttons on the back of the Joy-con was a bit harder than usual. And while I was able to still press all of the face buttons easily thanks to my tiny finger, I'd imagine someone with bigger fingers may have trouble. Overall I really like this product. It isn't perfect, and I doubt it will protect the Switch from something like a long drop onto a hard surface. But if you're looking for something that can protect your system from scratches while looking good and still fitting in the dock, this should work just fine. Oh, and while I didn't use the included screen protector (I already had one), it is a tempered glass one which is the recommended type of screen protector for the Switch. It even comes with a pair of wet and dry towelettes to clean the screen before applying it.

This product is 100% dock compatible. The joy-con covers are nice, the best I've used so far, however they do not work in any kind of Joy-Con grip controller (such as the charging one or the one that came with the Switch). IF you have a D-Brand skin on your Switch like I do, then this case will NOT I repeate will NOT work on your switch. The joy-con covers go on just fine, however the tablet cover will NOT go on to the tablet with a D-Brand Skin on. Why this is, I have no idea, as the skin is as thin as paper. I tested the case I bought on a Switch without a skin, and it worked just fine. As for protection, this will protect the Joy-Con's just fine, but this offers 0 drop protection to the Switch tablet itself. It'll protect the tablet from scratches, but not from drops, so be aware of that when purchasing. Nyko if you read this, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE put a warning that this is not compatible with Switch Skins, and/or redesign your product to work.

Got this as a small gift for Christmas, and as of today, the body shell will no longer stay on. I really had high hopes for this cover. I love how the red and blue design came together. I loved the idea of the sleek shell, and the grips that came with it. The shell feels like it stretched a bit or lost its ability to snap into place. I tried over and over and it just doesn't want to stay put. Also, the system absolutely will not dock with the shell on. I only tried it a couple of times and gave up. I'm more of traveler anyway with my switch so it's rarely ever docked at home. The grips for the joycons fit tight, and are nice when they're put on, but they're really hard to remove which you'd need to do if you wanted to connect them to the controller that comes with the Switch. They will not slide on with the rubber grips on. Again, I don't really connect it to my TV so it's not a big deal for me. It does however fit the "Nintendo Switch Zelda Breath of The Wild Carrying Case – Protective Deluxe Travel Case – Koskin Leather with Embossed Zelda Breath of The Wild Art" really well. I did not have any problems carrying it around in this case. I feel it'd fit in most cases that size because there was still some room when the Switched was placed inside. I feel like the 2 star rating might be a bit harsh, but I'm only going that low because of the troubles I had with mine. I noticed some other reviews had a different experience where their Switch actually docked fine, never had issues with the shell coming off. It's definitely worth checking out for the low price of $10 or $11. Hopefully you don't have the issues I had with it.

I had just received this item an hour ago or so and was excited to try it out. The following paragraphs describes my user experience, but if you'd like the TLDR version, please refer to the review heading above. *** INSTALLATION *** I opened the package and was pleased to find a screen protector included, along with some cleaning wipes to aid in application. It's a nice touch for customers who have yet to apply any screen protector, but since I didn't need any of these, I went straight to put on the case. The case snapped on just fine (seemingly), so I proceeded to try docking the Switch. Nope, the Switch could be inserted into the dock (although a little tight) but it wouldn't connect properly. Removed and re-attached the case to the Switch. Still wouldn't connect. Came to check if other users are experiencing the same issue. As it turns out, I realised that there was a bump along the latches on the bottom of the case, which indicated the possibility that the case had not been assembled properly. I tried to assemble the case without the Switch in it and was able to do so, such that there wasn't any bump along the edges as before. Next, I went on to assemble the case on the Switch and this time, I ensured that the edges were latched on properly. Put the Switch into the dock. Voila, the green light lit up steadily. I attached a picture of my setup as proof. If you bought this and are having issue with connecting your Switch to the dock, ensure that the entire bottom edge of the case feels even throughout. If there is any bump at all, chances are that the latches aren't properly secured. For reference, I uploaded a picture showing the bottom part of the case on my Switch. *** PRODUCT FUNCTIONALITY & DESIGN *** I ordered this partly because the joy-con portions of the case are separable from the Switch unit. This is important because I can't imagine having to remove the case every time I wanted to use the joy-cons separately (e.g. for motion control). Some users noted that with the case on, it becomes a little more difficult to remove the joy-cons from the Switch because the case wraps around the eject button very snugly. I took a picture of the back of a joy-con, if you'd like a better look. I found that the trick is to use your fingernail to poke the button lightly as you lift it from the Switch unit. As with other cases, since the case adds a layer of bulk around the buttons on the face of the joy-cons, it's to be expected that this adds a tiny degree of difficulty in reaching the buttons that are positioned away from the rest, such as the '+', '-' and home buttons. For the rest, I did not find any noticeable difference. Aesthetic-wise, I personally feel that the colours work best with the default grey joy-cons so as to allow the colours of the case to best present themselves without any of that advertised "augmentation". *** CONCLUSION *** I'd give it 3 stars, but seeing as this is the only product (that I know of) in the market which has what I find to be the two most important features: 1) Separable joy-con portions 2) Dockable I gave it 4 stars instead. All in all, I like it and I'll be keeping it on 24/7. Kudos!

I love how the Switch looks, so I just wanted a clear case. This one is great. First it splits, so I can use the joycons without having to take the case off. Second, it's dockable, so again no need to take it off. The whole case is also thin enough to fit in any Switch carrier. The shell that goes on the console is hard plastic, which makes the switch looks amazing. The joycons cover part is silicone, so it helps to give the joycons some grip, which is awesome because they were really slippery before. The cutouts on the back of the shell make it easy to put the switch in the dock in the right place. However, the extension of the cutouts make the case flimsy on the bottom part. It's also hard to close the shell cause you have to press all the little connectors, but not a big deal.

It helps to cover most of the back part if AC console back print. The joycon grip on both sides is pretty good offering nice texture to hold on. I had to try this on a few times and make sure all the clips smooth out before it works on the dock. Overall a good case to give just fair amount of protection. Definitely not for those looking for drop proof protection but is good for day to day use

Nice and quality

Pros: it really is dockable with the offical nintendo dock I use, quick and rather easy case installation, and the tempered glass screen protector had no bubbles , its comfortable to hold, lightweight, looks good on the switch, and will protect from the switch from scratches and scuffs. Also the joycon covers I got were the correct colour per joycon I know another reviewer had them come in the opposite colours so just mentioning. Cons: the case doesnt cover a large portion of the back of the switch leaving it unprotected, the joycon covers are difficult to get off once on (so im keeping them off for now), and the colour of the case is dark it is not an exact match to the red and blue joycons as it appers to be in the sellers photos.
