Great Summer Book 2026
I ordered this and came the next day.. immediately read it They're all just people trying to get through life, broken, confused, and figuring things out. That's what made this book so relatable. This story resonated with me through its themes of depression, art, books, and loneliness. I also loved how the author balanced humor with heartfelt moments. Phoebe was easily likable. She's observant, witty, and the kind of character who stays with you. I also saw a bit of myself in Patricia's perspective on femininity, womanhood, and vulnerability. Overall, this was such an enjoyable read. It was easy to get immersed in the story, and every character felt like someone you could know in real life. I wouldn't exactly call it a light read, but it's definitely one l'd recommend.

Emotional, Funny, and Unexpectedly Comforting
I really enjoyed this book. It manages to balance emotional and heavy topics with humor in a very natural way. The story starts in a way that feels a bit intense and unusual, but the characters quickly pull you in, especially the dynamic between them. I also loved the writing style — it was engaging, easy to read, and emotional without feeling overly dramatic. Overall, it’s one of those books that makes you laugh, reflect, and feel attached to the characters at the same time. Definitely recommend it if you enjoy contemporary fiction with emotional depth and a bit of dark humor

Excelente
Hermosa novela, con personajes reales, en movimiento y bien definidos. Es difícil cortar la lectura para seguir luego, te engancha desde el inicio. Mucho humor, diálogos exquisitos y una trama finamente armada. Muy recomendable.

Exceeded my expectations in every way - loved this book
I had seen this book appearing on a few list of recommendations so was pleased it was chosen as a book club read. The cover and blurb paint the book as a funny and moving story (I expected light, female fiction) - I've read a few serious books lately so this seemed a great option. This was first published in 2024, the book has 363 pages with the action taking place over a week (Tuesday to Monday). Each day is a separate part in the book and is then split into chapters. I have complete admiration for the publishers not giving away too much of the plot on the back so there is drama for the reader in the first few pages when we read about the extremes that these two women are planning. I had preconceptions and this book was immediately darker which is always good for me. The women meet and begin a relationship where they guardedly bare their respective souls. Both have complex backgrounds and some difficult familial relationships which all become polarised by the wedding/divorce. It’s interesting to look at the differences between a US and UK wedding (I’m in the UK) – I realised how much we are moving towards the US model. Regardless of the setting though we see that the bride and groom have an exaggerated status for the weekend – the groom is the “man of the hour” and the bride seems to be the creator of all fun, running around to solve all problems. There are some very perceptive observations about how long-term friends become a habit rather than a need and new connections can be life changing. I expected the book to be predictable, and it wasn’t. Even as I got towards the end, I had no idea what was going to happen. I was very touched by this story and found it very relatable even though I haven’t been in any similar situation. All the emotions are explored, and everything is heightened by the stress of the wedding. The writing is great as well – this is a joy to read. Exceeded my expectations in every way – I will recommend this book.
