Tip is trusting and solid
Great quality for the money. Tip is very pointy and is actually 3 bladed. Wood is a good clean knot free piece of wood.

My favorite "dumb" purchase.
Nobody really needs this lance... I maybe if you are a re-enactment person, but even then, this thing is pretty serious. I wouldn't want you coming at me with it. But I love it! Everything is nicely made and sturdy. The lance has a great point and the taper fits really well. You could spent a little time with a stone or fine file and get a sharp edges on the blades if you wanted. As for the people complaining it broke because they insist on throwing it at trees and such - STOP IT. This thing is not and never would have been intended to impact a tree. Lances mostly used from horseback as a type of shock trooper to break enemy formations or pierce armor. As such, more often than not, the lances would break upon impact. If you want to practice with it, use it on water jugs, melons, or foam archery targets.

Very well made product. Just make sure you know what it's made for.
I never received the lance. It was broken in shipping. It wasn't the maker of the company selling the lance's fault. I purchased the head and butt cap from another party. They are fantastic. Extremely well made and the POINT is very sharp. These idiots that are throwing their lance into trees or targets. Do NOT understand what a lance is. This is NOT a spear. As it says, it's a lance. A thrusting weapon. The head was made to go through plate and chain armor. This is the type of weapon that Polish Hussar or Bengali Lancers would have used. It's a horse back weapon or can be used while on foot. These lances were one time use weapons. They were either mounted on a hollowed out pole as used by the Hussars, or a Bamboo pole as in the Bengal Lancers. They would break after penetration and be left till after the battle. Secondary weapons like swords, mace, and pistol would then be used. The winner's would then send someone out to collect all the lance heads and caps. They would then remount them to new poles. I have mine mounted on the wall. I put a leather handgrip and wrist leash on it. There's also a long white and red lancer flag near the point. There's also a Polish Saber, Hat, Helmet, and a picture of my Great Great grandfather with it. His father fought against the Ottoman empire in 1620 during the attack on Vennia . The Polish Winged Hussars. In no way is this suppose to be a spear. It's a sticker.

Amazing Lance!
This thing is a beast! I roughed up the end of the shaft with sandpaper, then used gorilla glue and slid the head on, followed by some heavier duty screws (the ones that come with it are pretty weak.) I just tried it out on a thick plastic water jug, followed by a piece of plywood and then sheet metal. In every instance, it punched through without a second thought and barely any effort. This thing is a killer, and the tip is sharp as all get out. It's fairly light (which I like), but it is solid as a rock. If you want something for zombies or, well, anything that needs stabbed really, you won't find a better spear. A+++++

Great Product but Warrants Care!
Very Nice and Heavy Duty product! The only issue with this item is if it is used at all, you have to be sure the target is a large roll of hay or extremely rotten stump. This design sticks in so deeply that extraction can be almost impossible. If hiking through the woods with this thing or carrying it on horseback as once was done a scabbard would be a very good idea.

Ultra pointy lance head very well made.
Cold steel got this lance point right but my staff/wood was warped, no problems at all Cold Steel had another one shipped to me at no charge. Very happy with this as now I have an extra pole that I cut out the warped part and use for other things. Cant go wrong with this one backed by Cold Steel.

Good with some work needed
It is a budget spear, and was bought as a project piece. Was not expecting it to be perfect, and with a little work the deficiencies were corrected. Wooden shaft was bent, covered with a nasty varnish, and the socket portion was ground too small to fit the head correctly. Heat and clamping against the bend straightened the shaft, you can use a heat gun if you take your time, or open flame if you have that option. A power sander dispensed with the varnish, and hand sanding smoothed everything out. Socket of the head is of course not perfect, it is not round but rather round-ish, and needed some internal sanding and washing to get the crud out. Chopped about 3 inches off the tip and re-profiled to fit tightly into the socket, this was the most difficult part, getting the head to index and fit correctly. Replaced the crap screws that came with the thing, those were junk. I am extremely pleased with the way this spear turned out, it is definitely NOT a toy. The point is sturdy and wickedly sharp. Overall the thing should take a fair bit of abuse, while remaining light enough to actually carry. I will fit a rubber cap on the butt end, and use this as my walk-around stick on the farm.

and the shaft is seemingly good quality wood
I paid way less for this here than iw ould have on cold steels website. And while the screw that came with it, to attach the head to the shaft, is a bit weak, the rest of this spear is strong. The head is a solid chunk of steel, and the shaft is seemingly good quality wood. Mine was slightly warped on arrival but it was easy to strighten out just with a bit of pressure over the course of a week. I paid almost double this for a Shinwa yari and that thing was a peice of junk. This spear, for this price, is amazing.

A very nice solid spear
A very nice solid spear. I'm going to build a cover for the point and fashion it into a hiking stick. There are lots of bears out where I like to hike, and it doesn't hurt to have a backup if bear spray doesn't work.

Pointy sharp and ready
It's the lightest of the spears cold steel makes. Its probably their best piercing weapon, I recommend it if you want a cool spear to hang over your bed or on your wall. Recommended it if your worried when raccoons bandits attack
