The Beadsmith No-Tangle Thread Bobbins, String Organizer, Ideal for Kumihimo or Cord Management (1 7/8 Inches, Set of 8)

I purchased these to use with kumihimo, but I think they would be useful for macrame as well. These are soft plastic spools that can be closed after you wind the thread, yarn, cord or whatever you are using. They are very easy to open when you need to unwind more cord as you go. I think they are reasonably priced.

Works great

I know most that buy these will use for kumihimo, but I got these for making wire weaving jewelry, so you can coil the wire without bending or kinking it. I am thinking I may also use this for colorwork in my knitting as well, as my "figure-8" yarn often falls open. This would keep the yarn secure and untangled. It's always nice when you find a craft tool that you can use for more than one craft.

These little disks are flexible plastic. You open them up and wind on your crochet cotton then flip down the domed side and it holds onto the threads while you work with them keeping all your dangling bobbins from getting tangled with each other. Pulling some more length out is easily done, and you usually don't get the whole unwinding and falling to the floor thing. I don't use them as much anymore because I am in a medieval recreation group, and they are very plastic, but if that is not a concern they work fine. Kumihimo with these pre-wrapped with several yards of your fiber is one of the only crafts you can do on a plane that doesn't need sharp pointy things. Not a 5-star because they do not hold #5 crochet cotton well. For Sinfonia or any other cabled cottons they work great, and probably for thicker crochet cottons. Never tried them with other fibers. Flax (linen) or smooth wool should work well. A foam kumihimo disk abrades silk so that is not recommended. The Japanese used the maru Dai (a smooth wood kumihimo disk with legs) for silk, and these bobbins would not be heavy enough to balance the counterweights.

I had previously purchased weighted bobbins (not from this seller), which turned out to be WAY heavier than I needed for my purposes, so I am very glad to have a lovely lightweight set.

These are very helpful for managing long strands of weaving wire. They are just the right design and are easy to open and close. They hold a lot of wire!
