Great looking...only time will tell about inside
How does one rate a filter that you cannot see? At least the outside finish is better than the VW dealer provided on my last change. What is more important to know is how to change this filter so here are some pointers: - The bracket clamp on the filter body has as special type of double square slot on the screw to loosen it. I was able to use a large torx bit that fit and it worked but it was not real tight and I did not make it tight. You can change this out with a normal hex head if you want. - Look at the videos on youtube FIRST for some good instructions and visuals. - This filter comes with the o rings and they must be changed as they age and if one leaks you will not be able to run your car. - Find a dowel plug to put in hoses before doing this job. - put a towel under the area to catch diesel as it is corrosive...you will spill! - after you put in the new filter fill it up again with filtered fuel from you old filter through a paper strainer or towel. Use a funnel and put it in the hole where the ring clamp holds the tee fitting...don't rest the funnel in the bottom as it has a plate that it will rest on and stop flow. - after you put everything back together hold off with the hose clamps and attach a small hose to the outlet of the filter. Have someone put the car in run mode (do not start!) and the pump will run a few seconds and purge the air from the filter. Do this until you get most air out. I found I would always get a few bubbles but mostly a solid stream. Car worked fine and started right away. - I do not know how low the filter has to go since it seem it can be located higher for easy access to the drain but I put it at the same height as was removed suspecting some kind of unwanted siphon action.

This product was a direct replacement for my 2003 Golf TDI. This was the easiest filter I have ever replaced. My car was acting funny on acceleration it would hesitate and the pedal was just not responding correctly. I also noticed during highway speeds it was a little erratic. The new filter cleared it all up and it runs like a champ again... go diesel! Note to the novice: Caution, what should have been a 15 minute job turned into a 2 hour project. This was because I did not fill the new filter with diesel and had to re-prime my fuel system. Do yourself a favor and make sure you have enough fuel on hand to fill the filter prior to installing. I think most people just pour the fuel out of the old filter into the new one, I kind of did this but, I only poured a minor amount of fuel not enough to fill the filter, it was barley enough to saturate the filer element. I'll know better next time.

It fits and works in a 2005 Volkswagen Passat TDI
I only ran the car for 10 minutes after installing the filter. Everything seems to be OK. I took off one star. There is many factors why I did not give it a five star review. Some of those factors pertaining to Amazon, and others pertain to the manufacture, But when I buy a German product for my German car, I expect German quality and this filter, although sold by a German company was made in Bosnia And having bought previous versions years ago that were actually made in Germany. I can see the differences and it is upsetting. I regularly cut open my old fuel filters just to see what kind of contaminants were in them and if I have to worry whether my in tank pump is starting to fail and spread debris throughout the system . I noticed the filter media in these new filters is not nearly what they used to be in the old filters, the old filters were packed very tightly and full of filter media almost like a roll of toilet paper, but better material, these new filters are half the size inside meanwhile, the outside container of the filter is the same dimensions as the old. So far the only filters that I have found to still be made the good old fashion way is the. HENGST brand. Unfortunately, I am also discovering counterfeit parts being sold on Amazon, being an auto mechanic and ordering parts from Amazon as compared to reputable auto parts supply, I have noticed that on random occasions the Amazon or online parts are not the quality that they are supposed to be, and it becomes evident when you get an actual legitimate part next to them, so, although this filter will work, because the surface area inside, the filter of the filter media is smaller. It will not last as long. Some people just replace the filter once a year as preventative maintenance and they would be fine, other people like to get the full service out of a filter and run it until engine performance is affected and then change it. With prices always going up sometimes people need to extend the maintenance interval and this filter being smaller inside will definitely affect how long that interval can be extended, it was easy to install and I guess for the cheaper price online you get what you pay for. The HENGST brand filter from a local parts retailer is around $40 and unfortunately they had to order it. It was a three day. Wait, Amazon had this to me the very next morning..

Stuttered after filter changed, but found to be EGR valve
Great price and fast shipping. I installed this filter over the WIX filters I usually use because it is the recommended replacement for my 2004 Jetta TDI and I saw that it was cheaper on amazon than at my local auto parts store. I removed the old filter and two seals, installed the new ones and filled the filter with diesel before starting the car. It stuttered a little on start up, but was fine after a minute. Since installation a month ago, I have periodically had the vehicle stuttering during accelerations and sometimes even at idle. It seems random when this happens and goes away after an engine restart. I don’t have any check engine faults for this and since this started happening right after the filter change I have to assume the filter or seals are faulty. Ordering another to see if that fixes the issue. I have never had this issue before changing the fuel filter at 20k mile intervals, so that also makes me suspicious of this part. Is there a warranty for this part? EDIT: after installing a second one of these filters and the stutter still persisted, I found stutter was being caused by a clogged EGR valve which happened to coincide with when the fuel filter was changed. It seems an odd coincidence that it happened right after the fuel filter was changed, but after cleaning the EGR valve, stuttering stopped. Will probably buy this filter again in the future.

Buen precio y buen filtro.
