Best product I have tried for this application
Many of the Optical Splitters I perused had quite a few #1 rating. Mostly for the lack of connectivity. Had to another brand back for this reason. However, this product works great and the part that I like about it is that is has a solid base and can be stuck onto the back of the TV to where the Optical connectors will not move.

Works great, except for one thing...
The BlueRigger 1x2 Toslink splitter was a snap to install and sends an excellent signal to both my soundbar and my Onkyo TX-8220 receiver - as if they were directly connected. I had tried an adapter with one Toslink and RCA jacks previously with another receiver that had only analog inputs, and that was less than satisfactory because the analog output was too low to adequately drive the receiver. I have no such issues with the BlueRigger. Unfortunately, my Samsung Smart TV no longer recognizes the soundbar, and also doesn't recognize the receiver, even when only one is powered on. I have to use the dedicated remote for either the soundbar or the receiver to adjust the volume. Not sure why I could control the volume on the soundbar with the old adapter, but not with the BlueRigger, but it's a relatively minor inconvenience. The price of the BlueRigger is also a bit high, which surprises me mostly because the old Toslink/RCA adapter cost less, and I'd have thought a unit with its own DAC would be more expensive.

Inexpensive and simple to install.
A simple inexpensive solution when you only have one digital optical output on your TV that enables you to connect to devices, like Bluetooth headphones and a soundbar. It works like a signal splitter on audio cables or coaxial cables.

How Can You Go Wrong With a Passive Splitter?
My LG TV has a single optical output. I use it to feed both my stereo and my sound bar (that way I can use the sound bar as a center speaker for movies with the stereo). Normally I just use the sound bar. I have a fully working and functional active optical splitter that I was using (and am still using). I figured I’d clean up the mess behind my TV with a passive optical splitter (no power supply). That didn’t work out at all! If you look closely at the end of a standard Toslink optical cable you will notice that the end is not quite square. There are two small ridges sticking out on opposite sides and one side is perfectly flat and one side has the corners slightly notched off. Why the hell they did that I cannot imagine since a perfectly round connector would have made more sense - But that’s the Toslink standard… The two female optical jacks do not actually match the shape of the Toslink connector - At least not on the one I got. It has the two ridges but the two other sides are identical - unlike the actual optical connectors. The male end is properly shaped. By the way I am a now retired Electronic Engineer - I do know how to insert connectors. No matter what orientation I tried on the weird connector neither my sound bar nor stereo received the optical input - I assume the problem is that the connectors were not fully aligned and engaged. To answer my title’s question - “How can you go wrong with a passive splitter.” The answer is if you use the wrong connector or the splitter is improperly assembled! For the seller or manufacturer - Don’t bother asking, this review stays up.

Just works
I needed a TOSLINK splitter to be able to connect both my Bose Cinemate II sound system as well as my Sennheiser RS175 headphones to my Sony Bravia TV. I was using the Sony headphone output for the RS175, but somehow got dropouts as of recently and was no longer satisfied with the sound. After reading the reviews and that this specific (passive) splitter might not work, I was a bit concerned. However, I can gladly report that it works fine and was very easy to install. Plugging the cables in might take a bit more effort than usual, but they sit tight, and the sound quality on my headphones is now much better. I ordered a 2m BlueRigger TOSLINK cable at the same time and am very happy. Thank God I did not to have to buy a powered one, as I am running out of sockets. ;-) Can recommend. Price seems to be on the lower end compared to the competition.
