Great no frills guitar
The Martin 000 JrE is a great sounding, no frills guitar. I bought the guitar to use as a travel guitar, as something I didn't have to worry about too much, but I've become very fond of this one in a short amount of time. The guitar has a warm, cohesive, understated look, and where the satin finish doesn't look all that great on spruce top guitars in my opinion, that finish complements this all sapele guitar body well. To me, it has a similar look to Dylan's Mahogany 00-17 -- not a bad thing. Recently, Martin increased the scale length from 24" to 24.9" on the 000JrE, and it has made a huge difference in the tone and in the way the guitar plays. The 24" scale seemed like an unnecessary compromise on the earlier Jrs. The feel of the current scale length is that of a standard 000, and the extra string tension definitely improves the tone of this guitar. In my opinion, there aren't any compromises with this guitar, especially considering the price. I have a standard 000 and an HD-28 to compare, and this guitar fits right into that company just fine. Already, this one is well on it's way to becoming a trusted companion....
