Elvis-Aloha from Hawaii-as never seen before
When I was growing up in the seventies, I remember Elvis very well. He was the man-the king of not only rock and roll, but all american music. He did it all-standards, country, gospel and of course Rock and roll. I like to think of Elvis as the "King of american music" He was loved by people of all ages. You can't put him in a box-you can't catorgorize him-he does it all. Now, I'm going to give short reviews on each "Chapter" on this dvd-and give a rating-1-to-5 stars-on each. Disc 1: Chapter 1: "Elvis Arives and greets fans" **** This is the unedited version-17 minutes of what amounted to 2-3 min of footage that was included in the american version of the concert. I actually enjoyed watching this. I don't think it was boring at all. Chapter 2: "Rehearsal concert" ***** 2 days before the origanal broadcast-Elvis and his band and 6,000 fans did this concert. It was a precaution-if anything went wrong with the satelite feed-they would have this concert as a back up-of course-nothing went wrong. This concert is a bit shorter-but the music and performence was very good. Chapter 3: "Elvis, Aloha from Hawaii concert" ***** This version is the original concert as it was broadcast over satelite on January 14, 1973. This is basically the no frills version of the concert. Americans had to wait 3 months to see this concert in April of 1973. More on this concert later. Disc 2: Chapter 1: "post-concert 'insert' songs session" *** This was ok. Elvis and the band gathered to do 5 songs that(4 songs)would be inserted into the American version of the concert. I think the DVD could live without this-but it's inclusion I guess serves as historical value if nothing else. Chapter 2: "Elvis, Aloha From Hawaii-NBC TV special" ***** This is the American Version of the concert-broadcast on April, 4 1973. Including four of the songs that was done after the conert along with outdoor footage of Hawaii. He does a lot of popular songs of the 50's thru 70's. My favorites are "Something" and "Fever" but all of the songs are very good. This was his last great hour-He would go into a cycle of decline after this and would culimate in his death in 1977-yet Elvis was king of american music and thanks to the deication and hardwork of those at graceland and BMG to Bring this on DVD, Elvis lives on-Long live the king!

Elvis. Aloha from Hawaii-live Deluxe Edition.
Elvis: Aloha from Hawaii (Deluxe Edition) This was the first televised show by satellite. Americans did not get to see it until a few months after it was made. It is very good of Elvis. The man knew HOW TO PUT ON A SHOW and what he was there for, and loved what he was doing. In all his DVD's he sings one song after another, interacts with his fans, his musicians, orchestra and back up singers, he seems to get a lot of fun out of them, for they make him smile, even tho he is singing--or trying to. I think it is really good, because he always gives everything he has in his shows for his Fans. Wonderful back up musicians, very talented. Watching him, makes you wonder "where does the man get so much energy?" Altho, I have to admit I like his DVD: Elvis; Thats the way it is, somewhat more than his Hawaii show. But every girl there is putting lay's on him. But who can blame them. And in his touring shows, he has control of the stage, musicians and they know exactly what he wants and when. Fabulous shows he puts on. I recommend this Deluxe set, I feel it was more than worth it. Bought it right here from Amazon, and as usual, service was very good. So, now I have bought several other DVD's that I want to have in my collection. This man was my ERA- the 1950's until his demise in 1977. I'm 69 yr old now and just beginning to really appreciate this Wonderfully, multi talented man. And looks that would knock'em dead...LOL I wish he were still alive to know what a Legacy he has left in his life.

Amazing
The video is amazing! Not only is Elvis gorgeous and sounds amazing as always. But you can see the sweat and the pores on his face! He winked at the camera and my heart skipped a beat! It was like he was winking at me! I was 7 in 1973 and unable to attend the concert. I felt like I was right there and had the best seat in the house! There will never be another Elvis. He was one of a kind. When I get to heaven I am looking forward to seeing Jesus, my dad and kissing Elvis!🥰😜. There are just no words! What a thrill it must have been to be at that concert.

Aloha From Hawaii Shows Elvis in Top Form!
"Elvis Aloha from Hawaii" is the peak of the hall of fame singer's 70's juggernauts that were kicked off with the incomparable "Elvis: 68 Comeback Special." Most aficionados and fans get side tracked in attempting to compare the two shows head to head when in fact they are perfect book ends of this period in Presley's career. Many observers prefer the "68 Comeback Special" for its unabashed rawness where the "Aloha Special" is sometimes criticized for being more stylized. It is good to have both specials because they showcase different aspects of Presley as a performer. Moreover, Presley's performance in "Aloha from Hawaii" is a wonder to behold when one considers the internal turmoil that the singer was experiencing at this time as documented in Peter Guralnick's excellent "Careless Love: The Unmasking of Elvis Presley." On January 14, 1973 Elvis was sufficiently challenged for this show as it was the first live performance that would be televised via satellite worldwide to over 1 Billion people. Presley knew he would have to be in better physical condition to pull this show off and also knew that he would need to overhaul his live show a bit as the "Aloha" special was slated to be a live album and RCA had just released a live set "Elvis as Recorded at Madison Square Garden" the previous year. Presley enlisted the help of music conductor Joe Guercio to spice up the arrangements and add a few new selections so that the anticipated live set would be a different show from the one at Madison Square Garden. Presley also wanted to make a definite statement with his wardrobe for the "Aloha" special show so he had Bill Belew design the famous white "Eagle" jumpsuit which became a favorite among fans. Presley is a study in supreme confidence as he takes the stage to his now customary introduction theme "Also Sprach Zarathustra (Theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey)." While he surveys his court as the "King of Rock and Roll" you get the feeling that the mighty King Arthur must have had a similar expression on his face when he surveyed his own court in "Camelot." Presley then launches into a rollicking version of "See See Rider" that is equal parts revival meeting and rhythm & blues send up. Presley's backing vocal group while unconventional (four male and four female singers) is incredibly effective. The call and response between Presley and background singers functions as a sort of declaration that you are indeed watching the best traveling show around. Along with the full orchestra Presley has a polished eight-piece backing band that had toured with him for several years and was impeccably tight. On the next number Presley manages to take the intensity up a notch with "Burning Love" if "See See Rider" was a revival "Burning Love" is a sanctified romp. The descending background harmony on the chorus is chilling which builds into the songs "hunk of burning love" finale. The shows that Presley favored in the 70's were visual and audio extravaganzas that were intended to overload the senses. While Presley could still rock with the best of them he took great delight in songs that allowed him to demonstrate a range of expression. None delivered this better then "You Gave Me a Mountain" Presley had performed this song on several previous tours but now he had become comfortable with the selection and is able to give a performance full of feeling. The center piece of the entire "Aloha" special is "An American Trilogy." In any other setting this selection would seem schmaltzy and over blown but under the adept direction of conductor Guercio, Presley is provided a platform to give a truly transcendent performance. So much so, that after the selection Presley seems overwhelmed not only by the mastery of the orchestra but by the enthusiastic reception of the audience. Presley also gives spirited renditions of his hits including "Suspicious Minds" "A Big Hunk of Love" as well as some selections by other well know artists "I Can't Stop Loving You" (Ray Charles) "Fever" (Peggy Lee) and "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" (Hank Williams). With 24 songs performed over 60 plus minutes there is bound to be something for every Presley fan. Finally, It comes back to the performance of one of the seminal singers of the 20th Century and what a performance it was captured here for future generations to discover and enjoy.
