Dr Raman has written specifically for western audiences and the native Hindu audience who are just embarking to study Jyotisha. The subjects contained is covered by other books written by Dr Raman. This book is specifically meant for beginners who have no knowledge of Jyotisha. Good book if you were looking for some quick knowledge regarding Jyotisha which is now becoming more and more popular in West as well as elesewhere outside of India.

Astrology is a pure science which is based on mathematical formulas. If one is buying this book in the impression that he/she would learn the astrology without putting any efforts then it's not a good decision. In order to become astrologer, one has to be patient and curious enough to explore all the possibility. I started with this book to learn astrology three months back. I tried first time to read this book but failed, I started again and failed again. After going through this process for almost 3 months, I understood the basic mistake of mine. I was little impatient and not trying to understand what respected Venkata Raman sir was trying to teach. Once I started this book from fresh with the sense that astrology is a pure science and it's based on mathematical concept. So, whatever the calculation is given in this book, I've to understand it properly to proceed further, I started getting the concept. I am on Chapter-IV and would be buying additional book from same author to learn astrology in-depth. My humble opinion to those reader who are failed to understand this book, please have some patience and hold-off any negative comment against this author. If you would have read the introduction then you would be knowing that Venkata Raman Sir is revered grandson of Prof B. Suryanarain Rao, who himself was a great astrologer of their time... Thanks! As a beginner wanting to learn Astrology, this book provides the basics knowledge to begin learning about astrology. The only thing this book might lack is the details needed for a beginner to understand.

Good basic book. Must read before proceeding for further studies.

I find the writing is actually intended for people who already know some form of basic astrology. I am still plodding through trying to understand "Astrology for Beginners"!!!

I really loved the way the books came to me. And the packing was so amazing.
