Is the surface of the drain smooth? I’ve seen some where it’s sharper than others and want to make sure it’s smooth to prevent cutting the kids.

Surface is very smooth, the ones that I have bought have not had sharp edges.

When it said brushed stainless steel, is the finish a shiny one or matte one ? My faucets are all brushed nickel finsih.

Looks close to a brushed nickel finish. I would say it's more shiny than matte. The one I installed somewhat matched a satin nickel shower trim kit.
