HP Sauce Original 255g

HP steak and chop sauce is a classic. It is a sweet and umami flavor, sort of chutney-like. Personally, I use it as a dipping sauce with lean cuts of beef, because the flavor is in the fat, and your typical USDA Choice loin cut needs a flavor boost.

A friend from England suggested that I try this sauce that is very popular in England and is probably in every home there. It's been around forever. So I decided to order a bottle to see for myself. I have mixed reviews as an American that likes to try different sauces. The main ingredient is malt vinegar. That might tell you something right there. It is certainly an acquired taste. It is a little bit like our A1 sauce. It is very strong. I have found that it tastes better alone directly on some kind of meat. When I put it on a cheeseburger with cheese and bread, it did not work for me because of the strong malt vinegar taste. And yet, when I put it directly on a plain burger on a plate or a steak, it tasted great. So for me I would say that it does not work on bread, but that is just my taste. It is a thicker sauce. It certainly is quality but the question is: does it work with our American taste-buds? Like I said, directly on the meat or as a dipping sauce. I would say try and see if it works for you. And not everybody in England likes it. Some in England prefer ketchup. But I do think it is worth trying.

I live in the Palm Springs area and could not find this item in the local super markets, so I ordered from Amazon. Love the product.

Saw this on a cooking show and decided to give it a try. It's awesome - so much better than A1. -1 star because the bottle was very sticky on arrival, like something leaked on it.

Best tasting steak sauce without being overbearing

Just what I needed, were a long way from any place with a British shop. Amazon took care of it.

The sauce tasted very strange to me, almost alcoholic or fermented, and definitely not like the HP Sauce I expected. Then I checked the bottle and saw that the Best Before date was May 1 2026, even though I just received it few days ago - 4 months past the Best Before Date. Very disappointing to receive a food product several months past its Best Before date. I stopped using it immediately and would not recommend buying from this seller.

A great substitute for A1 sauce.

Excellent, excellent and excellent. I happen to like the glass bottle as opposed to the all too common plastic container. I know, some will say that the plastic is just as good as the glass, but I would suggest otherwise. This is a special topping that needs to be treated with care.

Perfect in every way. Usual gorgeous taste and the best bit it oozes out of a glass bottle! A it expensive but it's quite rare now so will accept the price charged. Arrived on time too
