Bought it for this purpose. Love the book and the explanations... it's definitely something to keep in your library forever becase you never know when you might need it. I also refer to it for my concept design stage and I think it's a wonderful resource to be able to refer to repeatedly. Review: I loved reading this book. - I bought this for the AREs and will definitely keep it as a resource. It's rare to find such a wealth of information in such a concise, straightforward format.

This is a great textbook. Only wish it had more color pictures and diagrams. But overall super helpful.

Great Book
Really down to earth and applicable for Landscape Architects. I got it to study for the LARE but will use it in practice, I can't say that for all the study materials.

Wasted money, I always left swearing at the author.
There are so many errors in this book it is bordering on dangerous for students to use (pg 231 says parking lots can be 20% slope). They will have to unlearn some of this to be effective in a landscape architecture job. I have the 2nd edition and despite being published in 2009, they reference guidelines that were several editions out of date from 1998 (like the AASHTO green book). It's sloppy with charts it used other sources for and I found so many inconsistencies between this book and what it referenced I stopped using the charts. Then it shows some without citing a source and that makes me worried since there were errors where they did have citations. The writing and instruction screams of someone who has been in a classroom and not in practice for way too long. The way stormwater was glossed over quickly when it is generally the driving factor around much of a sites design is disappointing. It stated getting an NPDES permit is simple by filling out an easy NOI form. That process takes 9 months to a year, minimum and requires lots of reports and supporting calculations and coordination with conservation districts and state DEP regulations. It can be 30% of my project design budget. I have 16+ years in civil/site engineering and landscape architecture jobs with over 1000 jobs under my belt, theory is vastly different than execution. This book is good if you want to teach landscape architecture incorrectly, not actually be one.
