This is Ida P. Rolf's long-awaited book, written over a period of years in time stolen from her full schedule of teaching and lecturing. Here, with the aid of over 600 illustrations, Dr. Rolf explains the theory and practice of the body therapy known as rolfing. The purpose of rolfing is to put the body into a natural balance, or alignment, with the energy field in which it moves...the field of gravity. This rebalancing is accomplished through ten hour-long sessions of systematic maniulation that loosen and reorganize the myofascia, the connective tissue that surrounds the muscles. After rolfing, not only do you stand taller, look better, and move with greater ease, but you have more vitality and a greater of well-being. The book is intended for two types of readers: the interested but untrained layperson and the professional wanting technical information. In spite of its many illustrations, it makes no pretense of being an anatomy book. Rather its goal is to establish a new point of view, a new way of looking at the human body. Review: Ida Rolf shows off her considerable thought processes. - This is not a "how to do" Rolfing® Structural Integration, book. However, it is a window into the considerations of good human structure that motivated her in the founding of structural integration. The illustrations and their textual accompaniments make a good read in themselves. Many of these thoughts, so wild and crazy in their day, have become common knowledge, here explicated more fully. Review: Thanks - Smelled of mold, but it’s old so that can be expected!

In Theory
The book goes into the theory concerning rolfing. It is proof that Dr. Rolf was a very wise person. She stepped outside the traditional way of looking at the body. She was a real pioneer in this field.

what is rolfing?
This book has a lot of great pictures of people rolfing. What is that? My patience gets short with all these pictures. I am lucky I have a good imagination.

Very few physical therapists are aware of the importance of the psoas muscle. God rest your soul, Ida, for having helped me to keep walking.

I purchased this book to give myself a better idea of how this works
I purchased this book to give myself a better idea of how this works. I have since seen an integrated therapist and can attest that he finds places that others have not found to treat. He also gave me exercises to practice at home. I passed the book on to my massage therapist who is also interested in alternative treatments.
