desertcart.co.uk Edited rather than mixed, MTV Ibiza 2000: The Party lacks the polish of Ministry of Sound's Ibiza series but is pretty representative of the tracks/songs that were hot in the Spanish Island's 2000 season. Besides the build-ups and breakdowns of Darude's "Sandstorm", Wink's "French kiss (how's your evening so far)", Sister Bliss' "Sister Sister", Xpress 2's energetic "ACDC (Gangbanger mix)" contribute to over two hours of music that is buoyant, melodic and hard, but doesn't stretch in any unexpected directions. Simply said, these are fizzy floorfillers for the chart massive. The year 2000 was the year of UK garage so the selection includes hits from The Artful Dodger ("Woman Trouble") and the frankly appalling treatment of Baby D's happy hardcore anthem, "Let Me Be Your Fantasy". However as belies Ibiza's reputation, this double CD hovers somewhere between Euro and cheesy disco-house. There are exceptions to the rule. The Underworld meets Bedrock (Sasha & Digweed)'s version of "Cowgirl" is a vocodored stab at pure trance funk. Ashley Beadle's mix of Laurent Garnier's "The Man With The Red Face" possesses enough gusto to put a spring in anyone's step and Timo Maas re-working of "Dooms Night", with it's proto-jungle breaks and basslines can't fail to move you. MTV Ibiza 2000: The Party is not a bad album, just unnecessary when others like Ministry and Global Underground do it so much better. --Maxine Kabuubi Review: great - great album
