Great Light Blue Underglaze!
This underglaze is great! I love the speedball line of underglazes they all show up really well when glaze fired! It’s easy to apply too! I was just using it for painted on designs so that’s easy too just use a brush and paint it on your bisque! It’s never clumpy or chunky either! This specific color turned out really pretty, kind of a periwinkle blue almost. I’ll include pics of how it looked on my finished pieces! Overall, love it and would highly recommend!

Blue
Works great, used 2 coats and then 2 coats of clear and fired to cone 6.

Good color great price
Color is very bright at cone 5 with a clear over glaze. Goes on well and the price better than buying the small bottles of the other brands

Workability not so great
The color itself is very nice. However, it is very difficult to work with. The consistency is very thick. If you dilute it with water, you get a kind of grainy liquid which doesn't create an opaque coverage even after 3 layers. It dries up extremely quickly on the brush itself and makes it difficult to work with (compared to other brands such as amaco or mayco). Another issue is when it dries up on the greenware it turns powdery and it easily rubs off, so when you're applying another coat - it just brushes off the previous one. Anyway, don't expect to get consistent and accurate results with this underglaze. But hey, sometimes it's ok to have your work turn out a bit on the "artsy" side.

Solid Underglaze
Closer to Orange than Red. Three thick coats will give you a solid color effect but anything else will give closer to a water color effect. It's a lot of underglaze for $20 but it's pretty much market price so I'd say go support your local art store.

Ruined all my students' work
This product was very thick to apply, leaving brush strokes. It turned grey, when it was supposed to be black. Worst of all, when my students started carving their sgraffito designs, large areas of glaze began flaking off, ruining their beautiful work! Such a disappointment, and waste of money out of my precious little art budget. I want a refund so we can buy replacement glaze from a different company. As of now we have no more underglaze, and we want to retry their beautiful designs with a product that actually works as it should.

The best black underglaze!
The best deep black underglaze. Other brand underglazes come out dark gray and speedball is the perfect dark black

Love Speedball!
We use this in our community pottery community studio. It helps if you water it down as it’s quite thick. But it looks great and we never have any issues with speedball underglazes.
