This embolism style medical hosiery is used to reduce the risk of blood clots (pulmonary embolism) following medical procedures such sclerotherapy, EVLT, or general vascular surgery that is related to the venous system ( of varicose and spider veins). Embolism socks have a higher compression rating at the ankle, which acts as a ThromboEmbolic Deterrent aka "ted" style to prevent DVT (pooling of blood in the extremities) when limited movement, recovery, or bed confined patients must remain flat on their back or in recuperating positions following surgery. The higher ankle compression mitigates swelling and ensures proper blood flow while reducing the danger of clots traveling back to the heart, lungs, or brain. Graduated compression is incorporated into the leg profile, meaning the compression pressure (measured in mmHg) or "tightness" is gradually reduced from ankle to knee in an even gradient over the calf.
